John Roach
President, Tandy CorporationPrivate
enterprisePrivate enterprise is a significant contributor to our
standard of living and to our economy. The corner-
stone of private enterprise is individual initiative.
A long-term goal of Tandy Corporation has been to
institutionalize entrepreneurship and private enter-
prise so all could benefit. This is the guiding force
behind our stock purchase plan, investment program,
and various incentive plans, i.e., let everyone share
in the successes of the corporation.
Clearly, we've been reasonably successful in our
attempts because, by and large, we've outperformed all
the others. We actually aspire to be different. We want
everyone to take pride in their company, their work-
manship, their products, their results.
Some people's interest in our country is very counter-
productive: how little can they do, quality is not my job,
the customer doesn't matter, if everything doesn't go
my way I'll go somewhere else. It's exactly these kinds
of attitudes that have permitted foreign competition
to excel.
We, at Tandy, are at war in the marketplace with
everyone who has anything to sell! We must be deter-
mined that our products, our services and our systems
are highly productive-meaning primarily, that we
should work smarter-and that we are competitive in
price, performance and quality. Every aspect of our
business activity influences our image and our results
with customers, investors and our fellow employees.
We have good jobs, let's make them better. We have
good products, let's make sure everyone knows it. We
have good customers, let's make them want to come
back. We have ways to improve our personal worth
over the long-term, let's work at it.
Our results are dependent on us, let's be better than
all the rest.m1
