U.S.A. Store News
(continued from previous page)
come on the leading district man-
agers in the country. Olson's
complete profile appears in the
October issue of Intercom.
District 0880 Manager Bill
Hunter has been with Radio Shack
since 1975 when he started as a
manager-trainee at a store in New
Orleans, La. He went on to man-
age four other stores, three of
which were in Greensboro, N.C.,
before being promoted to District
0880 manager in July 1981.
Hunter won full Leader's Club
membership in 1977.
One of the acknowledged lead-
ers among the district managers in
the Charlotte Region is District
0342 Manager Bill Saul. Saul has
had multiple success throughout
his 15 year career with Radio
Shack and his experience is a vital
part of the Charlotte Region's suc-
cess. For a full profile on Bill Saul
see the September issue of
Intercom.
David McGee, who now serves
as District 0517 manager, started
with Radio Shack as a part-time
salesmaker in March 1977. He was
promoted to manager of Store
2323-Raleigh, N.C. in August of
that year and went on to manage
three other North Carolina stores
before being promoted to District
0341 manager. In April 1982 he
Real hot CoCo
Ken Willhite, manager, Store 4011-Kearns,
Utah, demonstrates a Color Computer that
survived a fire and is still working. Al-
though the casing and keyboard were
severly damaged, the screen appeared in
full working order!
42was promoted to his current posi-
tion in District 0517. He also
gained full Leader's Club member-
ship in FY '78. McGee has a rather
strange motto for the managers in
his district to follow. It is, "If they
can't steal it, it isn't merchandised
correctly. We want everything to be
as accessible as possible," he
says.
The newest district manager in
the Charlotte Region is District
0849 Manager Lee Lomax. Lomax
was promoted to DM in September
of this year and is already working
hard to make a name for himself.
After starting as manager of Store
2341-Henderson, N.C. in 1979, Lo-
max managed one more 01 store
before moving into computers as
manager of 18-2348-Durham, N.C.
He was promoted to manage
RSCC 7399-Richmond, Va., and
then promoted again to his most
successful center, RSCC 7884-
Norfolk, Va. At this store he earned
full Leader's Club membership
and topped the $2 million dollar
mark in sales. "The Charlotte Re-
gion has a rule that doesn't allow a
rookie DM to speak at a regional
meeting until he has been there
three months," says Lomax. "So if
they won't let me speak in person,
I'm going to let my numbers do the
talking for me!"
District 0523 Manager Bob
Murphy has been with Radio
Shack since June of 1975 when heI have a customer who owns a ProComp
100 programmable scanner (20-110) and
needs an owner's manual for it, or a rea-
sonable photocopy. They are no longer
available from National Parts. Please con-
tact Thomas Kent at Store 6753, 2415 Sa-
gamore Parkway, Lafayette, Ind., 47905.
I need several project boxes (270-269). If
you have any, contact Candy Flynn at Store
4413, 114 Graceland Blvd., Columbus,
Ohio, 43214, or call (614) 451-0336.
I have a customer that needs a DX-200
shortwave receiver (20-205). Contact Man-
ager Jim Haggarty, Store 6656, 945
Kingsway Mall, Sikeston, Mo., 63801, or
call (314) 472-0800.started as a manager-trainee at
Store 8801-Jacksonville, Fla. He
managed his first store, Store
8910-Pompano Beach, Fla., in Oc-
tober 1975 and went on to manage
four other 01 stores before return-
ing to Store 8801 as manager. In
October 1978, Murphy was pro-
moted to District 0357 manager,
working out of Tallahassee, Fla.
He stayed there until his promotion
to his current position as 0523 DM.
"This region has an aggressive ap-
proach to sales," says Murphy.
"Charlotte has demonstrated
imagination in areas such as
blockbuster sales and computer
sales that have resulted in suc-
cess. There is a lot of excitement
about the development of our mar-
ket and it's great to be a part of it."
No region has ever won five con-
secutive CDT trophies, but the
Charlotte Region has the opportu-
nity to go into the Radio Shack re-
cord books with their October
sales figures. A record like that
could not even be approached
without effective and responsible
leadership. Regional Manager
Tom Buxton has provided that
leadership for the Charlotte Re-
gion and successfully implanted
his ideas and sales ethics to a ca-
pable team of district managers.
Congratulations to the Charlotte
Region's DM crew on their highly
successful year so far, and contin-
ued successI am looking for two MC-900 speakers
(40-1258) for a very good customer of
mine. Please contact Joe Souter, Store

Minn., 55109, or call (612) 770-1952.
