ALGPC begins its tenth year
with a tribute to Gay and Lesbian
history, by bringing Dallas Gay/

On January 24th at 7:3Opm. at
the Hyde Park Theatre, 511 W.
43rd St., Johnson will present an
informative and delightful re-

Texana in its World Contex: An
evening with Phil Johnson."
This will be the first showing in
Austin, although the one-man
review has already dazzled audi--
ences in Dallas and San Antonio.
Johnson has been dubbed by
some in the Lesbian and Gay
media as the Grandfather of the
Gay movement in Texas." He
and four friends founded Texas'
first gay organization, "The
Circle ofFriends"on January 1st.
1965. Now sixty-three years old,
Johnson has lived on both sides
01 the Stonewall Revolution and
remembers well the Lesbian and

During the past decade,
ALGPC has grown from a small
organization to one whose en-
dorsement and views are ac-
tively sought by all serious con-
tenders for political office in the
Austin-Travis County area.
In addition to electing officials,
ALGPC has also been instru-
mental in gaining passage of
laws and ordinances that protect
the rights of Lesbians and Gays,
ordinances such as the Fair
Housing ordinance passed in the
early eighties. and more re-
cently, the passage of the Anti-
AIDS Discrimination ordi-
nance.
Even though there are n
scheduled elections during the
next year, ALGPC will continue
to work for the lesbian and gay
com'nmunityv In addition to the
Sarch on Austin for Lesbian and

of Anrii, Al GPC will be work-

passage of a statewide anti-
AIDS discrimination law.
To kick off the celebration,
ALGPC will feature a presenta-
tion of Texas Gay/Lesbian I s-

for Lesbian and Gav lEqual
Rights in the spring, and a han-

ALGPC will continue to 'wSork
with other groups, such as
ALLGO, Ebony Connection,
and NOW, in attempting to gain
equality for all citizens . The re-
cent remarks, of Dallas Judge
Jack Hampton have shown that
homophobia is s.,ti vrex elant in
our society, and it is the goal of
ALGPC to help ducate the
public in order to eradicate these
