Women In Recovery
Studies indicate cognitive, behavioral, and psychodynamic models tend to work best in
changing self-destructive behavior in women. In addition, women-only groups have been
suggested to be the most effective along with specific workshops related to issues of common
concern family and significant other relationships; AIDS education, parent training, coping with
stress, relapse preventions, and assertiveness training. Because child care is such a crucial issue
for many women the opportunity to receive this assistance in an outpatient setting is imperative.
3. GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
The purpose of the proposed program at OLCS is to help fill these gaps by providing
education and early intervention to women and children. The proposal will be effective due to
the commi ent OLCS has in networking with other minority service providers. In conjunction
with this proposal, the agency will provide a new staff position of Minority Outreach
Coordinator. This position will provide experience and expertise in working with women and
children in the minority populations. More specifically, we will target women from minority
group such as African Americans, Hispanics, and lesbians or bisexual women living in the Oak
Lawn area. The participants will be at risk for HIV infection due to their abuse of alcohol,
drugs, and other self-destructive behaviors.page 2 of 15
