included in the textbooks and courses of study. Chapter V presents the
results of the information obtained from the inquiry sheets about
present consumer education courses in high schools. The study con-
tains recommendations about the content to include in a high-school
course in consumer education, a textbook for the course, the grade level
on which to teach the course, and a guide line for the course.

Used in Sixty-Six Retail and Eight Wholesale Businesses of Denton,
Texas, with Recommendations for Improvements. Master of Science

This study was to determine the efficiency of bookkeeping in the
businesses of Denton, Texas, and to make recommendations for im-
provements where needed. The data were secured through personal
interviews with bookkeepers and managers of the businesses.
The study is divided into six sections: (1) Introduction, (2) Sur-
vey of bookkeeping systems of retail businesses, (3) Survey of book-
keeping systems of wholesale businesses, (4) Tax accounting in retail
and wholesale businesses, (5) Minimum essentials for good bookkeep-
ing practice, and (6) Conclusions and recommendations. The first part
of this study states the problem, indicates the methods of securing
and treating data, and defines the terms used. The second and third
divisions contain the information secured pertaining to the record-
keeping in the retail and wholesale businesses studied. The fourth
division deals with the tax accounting done by bookkeepers. The fifth
division sets up the minimum essentials for good bookkeeping prac-
tice according to specialists in the field of accounting. The sixth
division contains a summary of the practices being followed in account-
ing in Denton businesses and the author's recommendations for their
improvements.
