NAT SOF UNDERFour elderly men burned to death early today
when fire swept through a two-story boarding
house in downtown Fort Worth.
The four were trapped on the second floor
of the old frame ho se at 311 East Weatherford
when flames broke out
on the first floor about 1:30 a.m. A fifth man
who was also trapped * upstairs h
jumped from a bedroom window. He is in critical
condition at the Parkland Burn Center in Dallas
with burns and other injuries suffered in the fall.
Seven men lived in the old rooming house.
One of the two to escape said he caused the
fire when he fell asleep and dropped a lighted
cigarette on a rug. The man-- 49-year-old Paul
McCarty syid he wrs nw. kened by flames and tried
