Cadets Meet
Angel's Flight
Air Science III and IV cadets
were honored by a party and dance
at the North Texas clubhouse last
Wednesday night with the Angel
as special guests.
TIe function, sponsored by the
Roger M. Ramey Club, was de-
signed to help the advanced cadets
become better acquainted with
members of the Angels' Flight,
each other, and the detachment
personnel.
Cadet Tom Penn, AS IV, was
in charge of arrangements. The
newly organized cadet dance band
played for the two-hour event. Ar-
nold Air pledges were on hand to
assist as guides and information
sources.
Wives, dates, and steadies were
invited by cadets to the gala af-
fair. Class A blues was the uni-
form for the night.
This is the first year the entire
advanced-course classes have had
the get-acquainted party. All de-
tachment officers were invited to
the event.
Drinks and cookies were served
to the 65 cadets and their dates.
Over-all attendance totaled ap-
proximately 125 persons.
The cadet band received many
fine comments on their music. This
was their first time to play for the
cadet organization.
For Senior Cadets .. .Light plane training will begin
for local ROTC senior cadets as
soon as possible this month, it was
announced by college and detach-
ment officials when this unit was
named to participate in the flight
training program recently.
Contract for the training has
been awarded to Pat Breen of the
North Texas Aviation Co. at the
Denton Municipal Airport. In-
struction will be in Piper Cub,
Aeronca, and the Cessna light air-
craft.
Each senior on category I con-
tract will receive 35 hours of
flight instruction and the same
amount of ground school plus an
hour and a half of final flight
check. Successful completion of thePARACHUTES enter the plane with North Texas cadets in an-
other of the recent Flight Program hops from the Denton airport.
Over 200 cadets have flown this fall.flight course will qualify the ca-
det to apply for a private pilot's
license.
Lt. Col. Benjamin Widmann,
PAS, said the new pilot training
is designed to motivate greater
participation in senior ROTC
studies and eventual Air Force
careers. It will also permit earlier
screening of the cadets' adaptabil-
ity for flying.
More than two hundred cadets
from Detachment 835 have flown
in the fall semester orientation fly-
ing program. Captain Wakefield
said that more flights have been
scheduled for December and Jan-
uary.
A total of 28 flights has been
made in the Air Force C-45, C-46,and B-36. Most of the flights have
been short hops out of the Denton
airport although eleven cadets
made two-day trips in the B-36
out of Carswell Air Force Base.
Captain Wakefield has said that
he will try to make arrangements
for more B-36 flights in the next
two months and expects to have
more C-45s and C-46s for local
trips this semester.
Twenty-one cadets have gone to
Carswell this semester for the alti-
tude chamber indoctrination. They
were required to take a physical
examination at the base before
going into the chamber where
high altitude conditions were : imu-
lated.I

Honors Basics
The newly organized ROTC
dance band proved to be the talk
of the night as approximately 150
imdets attended the second anuual
hasic dance Friday night at the
North Texas clubhouse.
The free dance for Air Science
I and II cadets was sponsored and
-aid for the Roger M. Ramey
Club. Wallace Mulkey, AS II ca-
det, was in charge of all arrange-
ments. Basic representatives to
the Ramey Club were on the plan-

Planning Groups
For Military Ball
Committees have been announced
for the annual military ball to be
held in late February or early
March, Cadet Bobby Wagnon, Rn-
mey Club president, announced
this week.
Senior Cadet Billy Bickley has
been selected as project officer to
head the over-all affair. Thomas
Click and Melvin Allen are as-
istant project officers, each being
in charge of several committees.
All class representatives to the
Ramey Club are serving on at least
one planning group. These cadets
are open for any suggestion to-
ward the planning of the annual
ball.
A definite date will be set as
soon as a band can be signed, Bick-
ley said recently. Bands under
consideration include Ralph Mar-
terie, The Three Sons, and Sam
Donahue.
Committee chairmen include ca-
dets Tom Penn and David Green,
decorations; W. D. Mulkey, re-
freshments; James Shaper, pro-
gram; James Builta, publicity;
Ronald Gordon, invitations; Thom-
as Burleson, reception; T. E. Pow-
ell, clean-up; Thomas Bryan, hat
check and smoking, and Don Webb,
tables and chairs.
The ball will be held in the
Women's gym. In the past all
North Texas girls attending the
military ball have been given late
permission by the dean of women.
