FIRE
A fire early this morning at the District 3 asphalt
plant on Langdon Drive east of Highway 75 in Dallas
County destroyed a biler, a sheet metal barn and 12-
thousand gallons of asphalt. The fire started at 8 a.m.
when a boiler became overheated and the barn caught fire
Sam Atwell, a night watchman, told investigators the
heatatiming device was not working last night, causing
the boiler to overheat. Abner Briggs, on duty at theshop, said there was no explosion.
"It looked like the
barn was filled with flame all at once," he said. Five
trucks end 35 firemen from Dallas and surrounding areas
fought the blaze for an hour and a half. They finally
gave up and let it burn after ag seeing that nothing
v else was in danger. Estimates as to the extent of the
damage differ, ranging from 15 thousand dollars to 35thousand dollars.
