Next week is National Condom Awareness Week (2/14 - 2/21). We are planning
a variety of outreaches and I wanted to inform you as to what is happening.
1. I've included details as to what National Condom Awareness Week is all about.
We will be supporting the idea with safer sex buttons available to all bartenders as
well as tee shirts. We will have a supply of the "You Must Be Putting Me On" and
"Keep a Rubber On Hand" shirts at the Center and RetroActive.
2. Condoms in the bars. One of our goals is to be able to provide the area bars
with condoms and dental dams. Starting on Wednesday, Feb 14, participating
bars and clubs will have condoms and protective barriers to give to their clients.
We are recommending that bar owners/managers place a non-breakable basket
or dish on the top of the cigarette machine with condoms and "how to" brochures.
Bars wishing to continue providing condoms, on an on-going basis, will be able to
receive them from the AIDS Resource Center.
3. "Keep Your Sex Life Alive." A Gay Men's Sex and Health Issue Workshop will
be held on Friday, February 16, 7:00 - 9:00 pm at the AIDS Resource Center
Annex (3926B-Rear Cedar Springs Road, behind the Crossroads Market & Union
Jack). This session will focus on current safer sex and general health issues
facing gay males. There will be portions devoted to relationships where one or
more partners are HIV+ as well as addressing the issue of maintaining a healthy,
active sex life. This format is greatly different from those offered in the past. The
course will be facilitated by Dallas Gay Alliance/AIDS Resource Center
Volunteers. For more information call 521-5124 and ask for Jamie.
Enrollment/registration is encouraged but not required.
4. A sample of the poster is included.
Any assistance you will be able to provide would be appreciated.
T anks,
J ' Schield
