FAST TIMES AT
RIDGEMONT HIGH
Reviewed by Steve Vecchietti
I really haven't enjoyed teen-movies
much since Annette and Bobby hung
up their Catalina swimsuits; but time
marches on, and so does the teen-
movie.
Fast Times At Ridgemont High is the
latest offering in that gazebo of puberty-
ridden dreams, the teen-movie. And,
what's more, it's a great little flick!
Universal Pictures, that busy hive of
money-making frenzy, has released this
movie through the Refugee Films pro-
ductions; and at first glance, you
believe this is just another cheapo
movie cranked out like sausages each
summer to make a fast buck. Well,
F.T.A.R.H. is one of those summer
cheapos. The difference is that, by
George, it's a movie that works! The
cast of unknowns, headed up by tal-
ented doper, Sean Penn, snaps togeth-
er and has that magic of clicking to-
gether, without effort.
The plot is totally unimportant.
Ridgemont High is Anytown, USA. The
important thing is simply that you have
a good time watching the gang have a
good time. This is reminiscent of Rock
'n' Roll High School, the last good teen-
movie we had to play with. Dope, crazy
antics, crowded vans and bubbly, burst-
ing cheerleaders give you a good laugh,
and a good time.
What is important is that F.T.A.R.H.
is not trying to give us anything as-
tounding, and in a summer jam-packed
with gigantic productions with giant
budgets, this movie is your good, Fri-
day night six-pack fun-time movie. That
is all.
The cast will be around again. All this
goes to show you is that, once in a
great while, a movie can work if it
makes sure not to promise you the
world.
Make sure you go see F.T.A.R.H.
Take your friends, wear old jeans and
buy some red-hots or popcorn. Go to
relax and have a good time. ,wppY HaiU(S
