DISPUTE TILT
The Hill Billies coasted to an easy
83 to 25 victory over the Austin Col-
lege Kangaroos Saturday night be-
fore a large crowd at the Daniel Ba-
ker gym.
The Kangaroos started off with
plenty of dash and for a minute or
so it looked like they were going
places but the Hill Billy sharp shoot
era led by McDanlcl soon found the
range to run up a 16 to 4 lead a lead
that they kept adding to to put the
game safely on Ice. There was no
doubt about the final outcome of the
game after the first few minutes of
play.
Clements started the scoring by
dropping the ball through the hoop
for a single counter from the penalty
line to put the visitors in the lead for
the first and only time during tho
game. That lead wns Boon erased
however when the Hill Billies laid
down a barrage of field goals that
put them far in front never to be
headed.
McDanlcl led the Hill Billy field
goal barrage with six all of which
were made in the opening half and
gave him individual scoring honors
for the evening.
The Blalrmen were leading 27 to
13 when the Intermission gun sound-
ed. The second half was almost a rep-
etition of the first both in play and
scoring. The Hill Billies hung up 18
points while the Kangaroos were
getting one-third that number- in tho
first few minutes. Both teams missed
by one point of doubling their point
total acquired in the opening half.
By winning Saturday night's game
the Hill Billies were credited with
winning the disputed game played
by these teams in Sherman recently.
This agreement was reached in u
conference between the two teams
Saturday morning In regards to a
fair settlement of the disputed game.

Read 'Em and Weep
According to one of the snort wri.
ters from Austin College this surely
Is a hard hearted and gloomy world.
Yep he thinks everything should be
serious even to our Read 'Em and
Weep. No Joking and kidding for
him. Not even a bit of humor now
and then. Nope the young fellow
evidently don't go in for the finer
points of life by his cunning remarks
in the latest edition of the Austin
College paper.
The sports writer in the Kangaroo
seems to think we got a bit nasty
in our column last week when we
made the statement that money would
talk In persuading the referee to de-
cide tho winner of the Austin College
Daniel Baker game which ended In an
argument. We are very sorry if the
genneman got orrended by this re-
mark and as any sport would do we
npologize. But we do say that we
would hate to be so little as to take
i few lines from a column and leave
the rest. The only conclusions we
Ian reach for a thing like this is
Ignorance on the part of the writer.
Sure anybody can take a sentence
from a paragraph and make it sound
ugly but It takes a real he man to
publish the whole thing.
Our sympathy goes out for this
wiiter who takes life so serious and
who has no sense of humor. Strict
business Is undoubtedly this boy's
motto which we do not criticize him
for this but we do say that business
la not the main object in life. Its
only the means to the end. The end
which represents hardships and diffi-
culty. So young man our advice to
you is to go to your nearest drug
store; fetch a 1934 almanac; read up
on the latest gags and jokes and
have a great big laugh.

Before long all major league base-
ball clubs will be in full swing for
another campaign.
Daniel Baker has her share of men
who go in for the great national
pastime game but as the Billies have
done away with baseball these boys
will have to shine elsewhere.
Not only is baseball here but the
track season will soon be here in
which the boys can display their run-
ning ability. Already several of the
boys arc coming out getting in first
class condition.
BONES HARRIS
LED SCORING
Although the St. Edwards Tigers
were conference champions in foot-
ball for the year of 1933 they looked
like cellar champions In the race for
basketball honors against the Daniel
Baker Hill Billies last Wednesday
night. After Coach Blair had sent in
every man on his squad the scorers
gave the Billies 37 points while they
could only find 12 for the luckless
Tigers of Coach Curly James.
"Bullface" Harris started the Bil-
lies o. to a flying start by sinking
one field goal and a free toss in the
first minute of play and from this
three point lead the blue and white
cagcrs bombarded the basket to end
the half with the score 17-5 in their
favor. With substitutes playing the
larger part of the second half the
Tigers were still unable to stem the
tide of Hill Billle goals as George
Chrane rang the basket four times
for eight points to finish two points
under "Bones" Harris who was high
point man with ten points. For the
losers Himel and Cuen seemed to
have the best eyes for the basket
each scoring four points. Himel scor-
ed all of his points on free tosses.

It looks like Abilene is having the
Texas Conference race all to itself.
To date ull three schools are running
neck and neck for top honrs with a
perfect record. One of these schools
are due to fall when A. C. C. and Mc-
Murry tangle in an important con-
ference game.
PIRATES NOSE
OUT BILLIES
The Hill Billies dropped a hard
fought and close game to the South-
western University Pirates at George-
town last Wednesday night by score
of 32 and 31. The contest was nip
and tuck all the way with neither
team being able to pile up a lead that
wasn't within shooting distance and
it wasn't but a few seconds until the
final gun that the Pirates were able
to toss in the winning point.
Howard Harris lead the Billies at-
tack with eight points while GIddens
chalked up ten for the Pirates.

BAKER BOYS
HAVE THREE
HARD FIGHTS
Next week brings to a close the
Texas Conference basketball race for
the Billies but this will be one of the
hardest weeks the Billies have en-
countered this season as they play
McMurry Simmons and A. C. C. in
a row. As strange as it may seem
these three teams are leading the
Texas Conference race with perfect
records. All three clubs have hung
up victories over the Billies so far
this year.
On Monday the 16th the Billies will
journey to Taylor county where they
will clash with the McMurry Indians.
This will be the final meeting for
these two clubs as they have already
played one game in Brownwood
which the Indians won. The follow-
ing night Daniel Baker journeys over
to the Simmons University campus
where they will meet the Cowboys
in another bard go. Then they will
return home to entertain the Abilene
Christian Wildcats here on the 24th
of February.
The Billies have just returned home
from a trip south where they de-
feated St. Edwards and lost a hard
fought 32 and 31 battle to South-
western in Georgetown.
Old Maid: "I see they're talking
about putting a tax on bachelorhood
and I think it will serve them right."
Neighbor: "Yes; why not? All
other luxuries are being taxed."
Slow Waiter (in London restau-
rant): "Your coffee sir it's special
from South America."
Diner (sarcastically) : "Oh
that's where you've been?"

COUNTY MEET
WON BY LIONS
Led by big John Angcll glnnt for-
ward Brownwood High won tho High
School basketball championship of
Brown county last Wednesday night
when they defeated Early High
School Steers 37-15 at the Daniel Ba-
ker gym.
At the end of tho first two minutes
of play found both teams all square
at 3-3. But the Lions soon broke the
tie to pull out in the lead which was
never overcome during the night. A
total of 23 personal fouls were called
against both teams which Is proof
enough that the game did not have
thrills. Eight of these fouls wore
called In the first four minutes of
play. Both clubs were fighting from
start to finish as this was more than
an ordinary game.
Tho Lions held a 20-10 lead at the
intermission.
Brownwood put up their best de-
fenso of tho year by allowing only
five points to bo scored against them
In the last half. All of these points
came in the third period.
Mark Scott was tho best defensive
man on the floor by allowing his op-
ponent only two point. Teel lead
the Early attack witti six points.
After n very successful season the
Daniel Baker freshmen have called it
quits for the 1933 and 1934 basket-
ball season. Losing only one game
of Importance during the season these
boys deserve great credit for their
season's work. The highlight of the
season was tho winning of the Cole-
man Invitation Tournament which
brought much honor to the team.
The work of McCullcy and Daven-
port at centers McCury Smith and
Ward at forwards Payne C. Chrane
Davis Watson Montgomery at guard
have been outstanding and these men
should make valuable replacements
for tho Varsity next year.

This department witnessed its first
basketball and football game combin-
ed when we saw Daniel Baker and
A. C. C. play in Abilene the other
night. Yeah It was really a battle
from start to finish with all the thrill
of a grid game but everybody came
out unharmed to our surprise.
Twenty-fourth of February will end
basketball season for the Daniel Ba-
ker Hill Billies In Brownwood when
they clash with the A. C C. Wild-
cats. This promises to be a real bat-
tle as tho Billies will be out to avenge
tho defeat handed them in Abilene a
couple of weeks ago.
