day.,
McGinty day dawned bright and
clear Tuesday morning, throwing
its sunshine of joy all over the
awakening populace, who began to
assemble upon El Paso’s streets
and in the Plaza at an early hour.
There was just enough breeze stir-
ring to moderate the temperature
and tb calm the fears of many who
had anticipated a disagreeable
evening for the McGinty celebra-
tion. 'The weather Gods had set
to work as earnestly as the citizens
of El Paso to make the second day

The day s festivities began- witii
the arrival of the United States
troops from F'ort Bliss, who ‘ar-
rived at the Southern Pacific de-
pot on a special train furnished by
the Texas and Pacific railroad,
shortly before 8 o’clock. They
lost no time in falling into line and
ahead of the 18th infantary band
marched in the following order:
Capt Auger, commanding officer
and stall'. Capt. Ilinton in com-
mand of companies II. and D. of
the 48th infantary in platoons, and
troop A. of the 5th cavalry. In
that order they marched along the
Southern Pacific track to (fregon

little plaza and Fl Paso street,.

Attention was then given to the

Before taking possession, how-
ever, the editors were entertained
with a drill by the celebrated Mc-
Ginty Light Guards. With char-
acteristic xskill they were put
through the maneuvers; by their
famous captain. Peg. Awkward,
to a perfection, their antics were
received with hearty applause.
Their salute and present arms will
become the envy of United States
soldiers and their costumes the
criterion for the military organiza-
