Street Baptist County. Narcotics were taken fromi
all stores, and other merchandise amd
money were also stolen.
A telephone message from a (Dallas
officer to Tyler officers said today
that statements from the captured
fugitives strongly indicated they were
involved in the burglaries in this
vicinity.
Steve Roberts, a companion of the
convicts, was also taken into custody
and was being held for investigation.
Ranger Captain Lone Wolf Gan-
zaullas said LeMay and Merchon had
engaged in an orgy of crime since
their escape and are wanted for rob-
beries and safe-cracking in Grand-
view, Clifton, Fort Worth, Decatur,
Grand Saline, Lipan, DeLeon, Cool
idge, Hubbard, Carbon and other
towns in Wise and Johnson counties.
They are believed to have robbed at
least 50 stories, stolen several cars,
attacked two nightwatchmen ' and
taken $300 in cash, merchandise, nar-
cotics and gasoline during their
thirty-day crime wave.
LeMay, age 35, was sent to the Re-
trieve farm after he was sentenced to
12 years for burglaries in Van Zan^t
and Iron counties.
The 30-year-old Merchon had been
charged with 21 cases of burglary,
robbery and theft since 1934 and had
teen sentenced to a total of 31 years
in the state prison.
