Big Springs—Hotel Cole being im-
when entering and leaving a res-
taurant. (2) Some men insist upon
paying the fare of a woman whom
they meet by chance in a car,
which is quite proper. However,
he is not under obligation to do
so unless he wishes. (3) The ques-
tion of whether or not a gentleman
removes his hat in an elevator has
long been debated. Some argue that
an elevator is in the same class as
a room, while others say that it is
in the class of the street. However,
all etiquette authorities regard the
elevator as a small room, inasmuch
as it has a ceiling, and the courteous
man should remove his hat—espec-
ially while there are women in it.
If the gentleman wishes—and there
are no ladies in the car—he may re-
move his hat upon entering the car,
and immediately replace it.
Dear Miss Flo: Is there any set
rule in regard to what side of a.i
automobile a lady should take when
accompanied by an escort? (2) In
stepping from the car, should the
lady wait for tthe gentleman to
leave the car? S. E.
There is no rule as to which side
the lady occupies in a car. She
enters the car first and takes the
seat furtherest away, whether it is
the right or left. (2) When leav-
ing the car the lady waits for the
gentleman to lead the way in order
that he may assist her.
