Carlton and Clark Polk, nephews of
John Herndon, who have been visit-
ing here, left for .their home in Man-
ning, Texas the last of the week.
Mr. Herndon accompanied them as
far as Harlingen.
Mrs. Walter Yann and children,
who have been living in Falfurrias
for the past nine months, are here
visiting at the home of Dr. R. M.
Winn this week. Mr. and Mrs. Vann
plan to return to Mercedes this fall

have gone to Houston. Mr. Wright
will attend to business matters and
Mr. Richardson will visit his little
son Scotty, who recently underwent
an operation for the correction of
trouble in one of his hips.
Frank Hadden left Saturday for
San Antonio to attend the Scottish
Rite reunion.
B. H. Hooks left Saturday for San
Antonio to visit with his family.
Word has been received from the
Hoyts that they are visiting at their
old home in Athens, Tenn., among
their relatives and friends.
Paul Cottrell of San Benito was in
Mercedes Monday.
D. W. "Walker went to Brownsville
a business trip ,to Brownsville Tues-
day afternoon.
Joe Brooks left Thursday for Cor-
pus Christi to spend the Fourth of
July.
A. F. Allen has returned from an
extended trip in connection with the
public health service, from Laredo
to each town along the border to
Brownsville.
J. L. Denton has returned from a
several days’ visit to San Antonio,
where he attended the Shrine fes-
tivities.
Mrs. Mary Moses was in Mercedes
Wednesday from Harlingen on work
in connection with the Valley Farm-
er.
Word was received by relatives of
Mrs. Grant Morrison on Wednesday
morning that she had undergone .an
operation in a hospital in Dallas
and was getting along niicely. Mr.
Morrison is leaving for Dallas and
as soon as Mrs. Morrison is able to
travel will bring her home. Mrs.
Morrison has been teaching in the
College of Industrial Arts in Denton
during the summer session.

ing his brother and sister in Galves-

week. He was accompanied here by
his brother F. B. Chadick, who will

Woods Christian and Finley Ewing
of Harlingen were visitors in the
city Tuesday attending the Rotary
luncheon.

W. E. Tillory is here from North
Kansas City, Mo., and hag taken the
position of freight agent ajt the de-
pot. Mr. Tillory is well known in
Mercedes, having lived here a num-
ber of years ago, holding the position
he now holds. He enlisted and en-
tered the army while living here.
Mrs. Ralph Buell and son left on
Saturday of last week for Brown-
wood, Texas, making the trip over-
land with her father, E. H. Flynn,
who was her guest last week.
Miss Natalie Marquitz, county
health nurse, and Miss Vera Beard
of the state public health service,
and Mrs. M. H. Pennell were guests
at the Rotary luncheon Tuesday.
Otis Pel,t and J. Summers of Pharr
were business visitors in Mercedes
Tuesday.
Mr. and Mr.s. G. K. Harris of San
Antonio are visiting at the home of
Mrs Harris’ cousin Mrs. R. E. Lee.
C. H. Pease was a business visitor
from McAllen Saturday.
Emil Ewing returned to Houston
with his brother who has been visit- j
ing here for several days.
Capt. W. S. Peterson of Mission
spent the week in Mercedes and vi-
cinity.
Mrs. M. Schwartz of Easton, Pa.,
passed through Mercedes Wednesday
enroute through to visit her daughter

A. L. Brooks of Harlingen was a
business visitor here Friday.
R. D. Schols left Saturday for
Frankfort, Kansas, where he will be
gone for several months.
Mrs. Julia C. Montgomery returned
from Houstonlast week and spent sev-
eral days in Mercedes working in
the interest of Monty’s Monthly.
Mr. and Mrs. John Jones returned
the latter part of the week from Ala-
bama where they have been visiting
Mr. Jones’ parents for the past two
weeks.
J. E. Haynes made a business trip
to San Antonio the latter part of the
week.
J. F. Sharp has gone to Brostow,
Okla., ,to look after farming inter-
ests he holds there. He will return
to the Valley later in the year.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Stebbins and
children spent the week-end at Mon-
terrey. y

in Haydenville, Ohio. While in Mer-
cedes Mr. and Mrs. Stiers were guests
of Mrs. L. M. Finley and Mrs. Mar-
garet King and made many friends
here. Mr. Stiers has returned home to
look after his peach orchard in
which he has ten thousand trees.
D. A. Phillips, brother of Mrs.
Margaret King and Mrs. L. M. Fin-
ley, is in Dallas where he is under
a specialist’s care.

can and Miss Mary Frances Haynes

Word has been received in the city
from M. E. Evans who left here a
week ago to attend the bedside of
his daughter, who was very ill in St.
Louis. Mr. Evans stated that his
daughter who underwent a serious
operation was now out of danger and
improving.
Mr. and Mrs. Alan Hvistendahl are
leaving this week for San Antonio
where they will spend a few days.
Mrs. Hvistendahl’s mother, Mrs.
Myers will return to Mercedes with
them, to make an extended visit at
the home of her daughter.

John T. Harris who has been here

Tuesday for Colorado., where they
will spend six weeks in the moun-
tains.
Lucile Hooks, who has been visit-
ing in the Valley the past three
weeks, returned to her home in San
Antonio Thursday. She was accom-
panied by her cousin Myrtle Jones,
who will visit at the home of her
aunt Mrs. B. H. Hooks.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Kirkpatrick
arrived in Mercedes on Friday of last
week after a several weeks’ vacation
spent in. Ripley, Tenn., with rela-
tives.
