Intend to fit yourself ns thoroughly as
possible for life. It would require a
great stretch of imagination for one
to believe that he could become suc-
cessful doctor lawyer mechanic or
electrical engineer with but a few
days study. In fact a person who
has no previous experience in or
knowledge of any worth-while occu-
pation must make a thorough study of
that Darticular work to become effi-
dent in it. There are many Jokes tht "" -"h;8tan

they are taught its contents. Even if
they can read it it must be explained
to them. In Christian America con-
verts are supposed to read the Bible
and listen to its explanation given in
Sunday School church young people's
organizations and various other
places. They are received into the
church with the expectation that they
will read and study' Gods law that
they will profit by the SunBKy school
and preaching services. Small wonder
that the young Christian who does
none of these things fails to live up
standard fails to
withstand temptations.

Is making money and being success-
ful in material matters our sole con-
sideration on earth? We are taught
that there Is an existence after death
and that our preparations and conduct
in this life will determine wliat kind
of existence we shall have hi the life
to come. We also know that this life
is short compared to eternity. There-
fore we are somewhat anxious td
know which place we are to spend
eternity. The preacher tells us to re-
pent of our sins and accept Jesus
Christ as our Savior. Is this all that
Is necessary? Can our lles be made
perfect by this act?
"If so' you say. "our task is easy."
But is this all that the minister in-
structs us to do?
The blottong out or our former sins
is not sufficient. We must live ac-
cording to God's law if we are to in-
herit 'eternal reward in Heaven.
What is God's law? One sentence
cannot reveal to man all that is con-
tained In the eternal law. Prepara-
tions for a life on the other side tht
grave where we must be perfect in or-
der to enter the place of eternal joy is
not so much less exacting than pre-
paration for a successful financial ca-
reer. But the requirements for the
Christian life have not been placed so
high but that every man. woman and
child ou earth is capable of meeting
them. "Why then" you ask "Are
there so many young converts who ap-
pear to be in earnest who show every
proof of regeneration but who drift
away back into worldy ways and go
down to eternal punishment?" 1 have
asked myself this question many
times. It has brought me near to dis-
couragement many times to see a
great spiritual awakening and then
