THE CHIEFS CORNER

The Double Oak Police Department will soon be moving into the new munici-
pal complex. The modernization of the Police Department only begins there.
Two months ago, I was appointed to the position of Chief of Police and as
with any changing of the guards, the department itself will undergo several
changes over the next few months. I have spent the past month getting to
know the town as well as evaluating the department's needs. I am developing
a plan for the future of the department and accommodating the growth our
community. As many citizens may not be aware, Officer Joe Wise stepped in
as Assistant Chief to ensure that the day-to-day operation of the Department continued while the Town
Council underwent the exhaustive efforts of selecting a new Police Chief. Joe's dedication is commend-
able and made the changeover to the new administration much easier. However, in the new restructur-
ing of the Department, Joe has been promoted to Lieutenant and still acts
as my "right hand". I look forward to working with Lt. Wise as we take
the department to the next level of its evolution. On March 1, Officer Matt
Mentemeier joined our department as the new full time police officer. He
came to us from the Fort Worth Marshal's Office, his experience and dedi-
cation to community based policing will be a great asset to the Town of
Double Oak. Please take the opportunity to congratulate and introduce
yourself to Lt. Wise and Officer Mentemeier when you see them around
town.
It is my desire to provide as much preventative patrol and community based policing as possible; al-
though there are still so many areas within the town to evaluate, it will take some time for me to get a
good feel on what is available for the community and how we can obtain the resources to "fix" the
problems. At this time, I am looking into what can be done to solve these problems and of course the
increased patrols will help but most importantly you the citizens expressing your concerns or wishes are
essential to providing the highest level of service to the community. It has been proven time and time
again that high visibility patrols prevent a majority of the residential and vehicle burglaries especially in
communities such as ours. The department will provide those patrols and make inquiries into any suspi-
cious persons or vehicles found in our neighborhoods. Although the patrols have increased, they cannot
prevent all crimes so let's still keep safety and security in mind.
The Double Oak Police Department provides confidential vacation watches, if or when you leave town.
You may contact me for more information on this service, if needed. We are also in the developing
stages of a new program for our citizens, which will provide
the police department with valuable information should you
need help. There is a card on Page 9 that we would re-
quest to be filled out and either mailed to the police depart-
ment or dropped off in the YELLOW mailbox in front of city
hall. This card will help us create a database of the residents
YELLOW mailbox in front of city hall and any medical problems of the citizens at that address. The
necessity for this is imperative because when the police and/
or fire departments are sent to an address, this information will better assist us in getting the necessary
medical attention, if needed. This card will also give the law enforcement the necessary contact infor-
mation for next of kin if the situation should arise, medical conditions, medications being taken and
other important information. Please take the time to fill out and return this card for you and your fam-
ily. If you need more space, please feel free to put the information on a separate sheet of paper. You
can also email the information to the police department at doubleoakpd(a>vahoo.com.
I would like to take this opportunity to relate to the community that I have an "Open Door" policy to
anyone who wishes to visit with me, even if you need to voice a complaint, concern or if you would just
like to know how things are going within the department. Should anyone wish to speak with me di-
rectly, they may either call the police department or they may call my mobile telephone 972-467-3481.1
believe that the Chief of Police should be accessible to the community when needed; so, please do not
hesitate to call me. You can also email me at doubleoakpd@vahoo.com.
I have met many of the citizens of Double Oak over the past two months and I would like to thank you
all for the warm welcome and friendly waves in the mornings.
