BJJH names September
students of the month
Three students from Bernards
Jaime Junior High School in San
Diego have been selected as Stu-
dents of the Month of their respec-
tive grades by the school faculty.
The sixth grade student receiv-
ing the honor is Nicole M. Juarez,
daughter of Kathy and Juan A.
Garcia, Sr. The seventh grade
Student of the Month is David
Garza, son of Jaime and Maria
Garza. Eighth grade recipient of
the honor is Rene A. Gonzalez,
son of Rene and Juanita Gonzalez.
On Nicole’s list of favorite hob-
bies and extracurricular activities
she includes reading books, watch-
ing movies and going to the beach.
The 11 year-old wished that her
. school would add,a study hall led
by a teacher who would help stu-
dents complete homework assign-
ments.
For her hometown of San Di-
ego, Nicole envisions in the future
a place where "kids can go and
have fun, maybe a Boys and Girls
Club”.
Nicole believes students and
mainly teenagers face numerous
pressures today. She explains that
keeping up her grades, passing
TAAS, and peer pressure are her
main concerns. To overcome these
obstacles, Nicole advises study-
ing hard and avoiding bad com-
pany.
To alleviate and tackle similar
situations faced by teenagers,
David Garza offers a few pointers.
In order to help relieve stress and
tension, the seventh grade student
advises his peers to enroll in all the
Words of
Wisdom
extracurricular activities offered
by the school.
David follows his own advice
by participating in football, UIL
(theater arts), Student Council,
band and choir. He feels these
activities focus and emphasize cre-
ative outlets for releasing energy,
coping with stress, and overcom-
ing the myriad pressures teenag-
ers face today. Further, David
praises his community and schools
for the unity and support offered
to youth.
David's contribution his com-
munity is recycling. He adds that
his mother is "always reminding
all the members of the family to
not be wasteful."
Rene Gonzalez, an eighth
grade student, loves sports. He
participates in football, basketball
and baseball. Like David, Rene
believes recreational activities for
youngsters are needed and should
be considered a priority in our
school and community. Also, Rene
believes these activities will help
"keep the young out of the streets".
Not a native from San Diego,
the 14 year-old student does not
believe he could imagine himself
living and working in San Diego
in 10 years. "Nonetheless, Rene
feels that for its residents, San
Diego is "a good place to raise a
family since it is snail, and the
people are quite friendly".
Rene would help his commu-
nity by helping other children in
need. The experience of being
able to help others would be his
most satisfying contribution.

Thank You
God saw that she was getting tired, and
saw a cure was not to be, so He put His arms
around her. and whispered "Come with Me."
With tearful eyes we let her go and saw her
slip away. Although we love her dearly, we
could not make her stay. A precious golden
heart stopped beating, hard working hands
to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us.
