Fort Worth. Aug. 3.—W. T. Lewis,'
40, a fanner living near Haslet and
attending the Farmers*1 Union conven-
tion. was floored and kicked by an un-'
known man for whom he refused to
buy a drink at Twelfth and Calhoun
streets Thursday afternoon at one
o'clock. The man escaped and Lewis
was taken to the Medical college hos-
pital, where he Is recovering from the
shock. | ‘.
“Going to buy me a drink?" united
the assailant, as he sidled up to Lew-
is.
“Why, no,'* answered the farmer.
According to Lewie, the man at-
tacked him without saying anything
else. The police were called but

Mrs. .Spencer and Mrs. Wood and
about twenty children of the neigh-
borhood were in bathing. Mrs Hood
and Mrs. Spencer being in charge of
the children Mra. Spencer, although a
good swimmer, got beyond her depth,
and. becoming panic stricken, forgot
swim and began to sink. Her ac-
tions attracted the attention of the
children, some of whom were good
swimmers, who came to her assist-
ance. The Hood, Rosen, and Potter
boys and Johnnie Spencer went to
Mra. S(>encer's aid. They dived down
in the water, and shoved the drown-
ing woman to shallow water, and Mrs.
Ifood grabbed Mrs. Hpencer's bathing
skirt and brought her to land. The
