BRIEF
Operations in Ragsdale resume this week
By JACOB ROGERS
@jacob rogersOI
On Feb. 16, food services
at Ragsdale were suspended
due to a minor gas leak near
the Physical Plant Building,
according to a St. Edwards
University alert sent to stu-
dents.
Food services have since
resumed at South Congress
Market and Jo’s Meadows
Coffeehouse, however the
gas line is still under repair,
Mischelle Diaz, director of
communications said.
“Gas is back on for Rags-
dale and the RCC,” she said.
“Inspectors for the City of
Austin and Texas Gas have
determined it is safe to turn
on the gas in those build-
ings,”
Buildings without heat or
hot water include: the pool,
Fleck Hall, Munday Library,
Andre Hall, Trustee Hall,
Main Building and Carriage
House.
The gas line was shut off
and there is no danger to the
community because of the
repairs, Michael Peterson,
associate vice president for
Facilities said.
“Once the fitting is re-
placed, the line will be pres-
sure tested to confirm there
are no leaks and then the gas
will be turned on,” Peterson
said.

By JACOB ROGERS
@jacob_rogers01
In the early morning hours
of Feb. 17, Austin Police re-
sponded to a family distur-
bance at the Blunn Creek
Apartments, across the
street from the St. Edward’s
University parking garage.
A SWAT team was called
in to handle the standoff
with a man who locked
himself inside an apartment,
possibly having access gun,
according to APD.
The suspect, Jose Juarez,
Jr., 27, was arrested after a
nearly three hour standoff,
Juarez has been charged
with assault family violence,
according to jail records.
The Woodward street, the
parking garage and adjacent
parking lot were closed dur-
ing the standoff, but opened
later that morning.
