Strong Determinations
Ruth 1:15-18 - And she
said, Behold, thy sister in law is
gone back unto her people, and
unto her gods: return thou
after thy Sister in law.
And Ruth said, Intreat me
not to leave thee, or to return
from following after thee: for
whither thou goest I will go;
and where tnou lodgeth l
will lodge: thy people shall be
my people, and thy God my
God: Where thou diest, will I
die, and there will I be buried:
the Lord do so to me, and
more also, if ought but death
part thee and me: When she
saw that she was steadfastly
minded to go with her, then
she left speaking unto her.
In the course of the
Christian life there are many
times that one must have
STRONG DETERMINATIONS
to follow the Lord. It is often
most popular to choose the
road of least resistance but not
necessarily the way of
happiness.
The last words written
about Orpah were “behold, thy
sister in law is gone back unto
her people.” This seemed the
right course to take under the
existing circumstances. Not to
travel into a strange land
among strangers, their ways of
life and their mode of worship.
Orpha had not STRONG
DETERMINATIONS.
But the story of Ruth was
in direct contrast to her sister
in law. Ruth’s message was one
of strong determinations.
Where you go I will go and
where you live 1 will live. The
people you choose to associate
with will be the people I will
associate with. The God you
worship will be the God that I
worship. And where you die
there will I die also and there
will I be buried. No second
guessing, just a mind that was
settled on what she would do.
The Lord has called us to
follow after Him. Christ never
said that the road that we
would travel would be an easy
road but rather it would be at
times a way that would require
us to resist the ways of the
world.
Moses declared that he
would rather suffer with the
children of God than to enjoy
the pleasures of sin for a
season. Not many people in life
would ever have the privilege
of ascending to the height of
natural fame that could have
been Moses’ but he cast it all
aside to associate with the
chosen of God. Moses was a
man who had STRONG
DETERMINATIONS.

and integrity was tempted
often by the wife of the king
of the nation. Many others
would have fallen prey to these
temptations but Joseph said
that he could not do this sin
unto his master and before his
God. Moses had a STRONG
DETERMINATION to follow
the Lord.
We could speak on about
characters of the Bible who
had STRONG DETERMINA-
TIONS but what about today?
To be that person of whom
God could be pleased we must
disassociate ourselves from the
things of sin and wholly follow
the Lord. To be a Christian is
to be Christ like. And to be
Christ like is to be pure and
holy. Our daily lives must
reflect the image and nature of
Christ. Christ was one who
faced life with STRONG
DETERMINATIONS.
In our Christian pathway we
can be as Orpah and make no
mark of identity as to who we
are really following. Or else we
can be as Ruth and declare that
regardless of the sacrifices that
must be made we choose to
follow the Lord. This is a
decision that each individual
must make for himself. If you
are to be Christ like it requires
you to have STRONG
DETERMINATIONS.
