THROUGH the pages of Red Moon
Called Me walk some of the most
colorful figures encountered in the
career of any one schoolteacher;
they are, for that matter, prismatic
figures by any standard.
It is at once apparent that Miss
Golden, as she began her teaching
life in the early 1900s in the Govern-
ment Indian Service, was a dedicated
instructress - one who regarded her
Indian pupils as little people rather
than issues of a once-savage race.
With sure deftness, the author has
caught the varied atmospheres of the
schools in which she taught and has
brought into vigorous being her co-
workers, acquaintances and wards.
Complete with a large section of il-
lustrations, Red Moon gives deep in-
sight into the problems of the pres-
ent-day Red Man and gives credible
explanation of the whys and where-
fores of his having reached his con-
temporary status. Red Moon may
well be termed a humanized por-
trayal of a people's economic station.
