C. Fernandez at Point Isabel. They
report having had a very enjoyable

turned this week from Washington.

J. J. Elliott and J. E. Haynes had
business in McAllen Wednesday even-
ing. .Wednesday night Mr. Elliott
made a talk to the Boy Scouts who
are camped near San Juan.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Vann had for
their guests this week Mrs. C. M.
Nave, Miss J. Bouthery and Mr. C.
H. Soutbwick, all of Galveston. Mr.
and Mrs. Vann accompanied their
(guests to Galveston Tuesday, making
the trip in their car.
Mrs. E. E. Johnson and little
daughter Jaquelyn, returned Monday
from a four weeks visit to Bay City
and Corpus Christi. Mr. Johnson met
Mrs. Johnson in Corpus Christi and
they made the trip from there in
their car to Mercedes.

Miss Alice Mayfield, director of
Music of the West Texas Military
Academy and Bon Avon College of
San Antonio, was a visitor in Mer-
cedes Tuesday and Wednesday. JV|iss
Mayfiel was touring the Valley in
the interest of the Bon Avon College
of San Antonio and indirectly made
a pleasure trip by visiting Mrs. T.
L. Benson, an old time friend. Miss
Mayfield left Tuesday for Laredo.
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Hickman and
four children have arrived in Mer-
cedes this week from Lebanon. Mo.,
Mr. Hickman has accepted a position
as embalmer and funeral director for
the H. J. Menton Mercantile Co. He
will have charge of the undertaking
department, he and his wife being
licensed embalmers holding Texas,
Oklahoma and Missouri license. Mrs.
Hickman will assist in embalming
women and children as they have had
experience in embalming and direct-
ing funerals for the past thirty years.
