SUPPORT THE BAND AT BALL GAMES
PAY THEIR WAY IN AND HAVE MUSIC
Last week at the basketball games there
was no band music and the reason for this
was the fact that there was not enough of the
band inside to play. If we could have taken
the band outside we would have had some
music as there were many who were out
there. They did not come expecting to have
to pay to play in the band so had to to home.
These will all be students here some dav
if they are not run off before they get into
college and these same boys will help to ad-
vertise Howard Payne wherever they go and
perhaps will bring many more here with
them when they come over from High School.
If we intend to get students in the future we
must be nice to the high school students now
as they are future college prospects.
Would it be nice to charge the football
or basketball team to get into a game? How
about the band? Don't they do their part to
help win a game? Don't they work and re-
hearse for the purpose of helping win tho-iC
games? Are they not a part of the rn.u bin
ery that goes to make for co-operation .'
All of the band men in high school and
one or two in college had to pay to get into
the game. This is something t hat has novel
happened in Howard Payne before and it is a
disgrace to the tradition of not only TlowaVd
Payne but to schools all over the state. When
the band is in another town at some otii.-r
school they don't have to pay their v into
the contest for which the are goin:' tc plav.
They are welcome and are shown tha they
are wanted while at home they are not con-
sidered. The band must play and due to the fact
that there is not enough in college to make a
good big band the support of others is asked.
These give it without any other pay than to
see the contests that the school offers. They
work and rehearse all the time to be able to
make a creditable showing at anything of
this nature so they must play and if you
want to hear them at a ball game we must all
do our part bv paying their way so if you
can spare a quarter for this purpose give it to
the editor or one of his assistants and we will
yet have music at the games. Every one get
behind this and let's hear from the band dur-
ing the games if at no other time.
During football season the band never
missed pep meetings or a ball game and
when they were asked to play they did so
without saying a word and were glad of the
chance but when it come time for them
Thursday night they could not get into the
gym and play so there was not any music.
When you get a quarter give it to the ed-
itor or to the director of the band and tell
them what it is for so we can have music at
the next game which will be with the Cow-
boys and we sure want a band then and do
not forget your coupon book or it will cost
you a quarter to get in yourself.
HAPPY NEW YEAR
Happy New Year! The old year is gone.
The New Year is here. The old year has
been a great year for Howard Payne. Mem-
ories bring back many happy occasions oc-
casions that will be a happy place in our lives
for years to come. But it is our winh that the
New Year will be even dearer to us than the
old year has been. May it be a year of happi-
ness prosperity and victory for Howard
Payne.
May we resolve that no bitter thought or
cynical complaint no poisonous seeds of dis-
content or discord and ill will shall be car-
ried with us into the future. May it be a year
that will be filled with happiness for Howard
Payne and her friends. May we truly wish
for you "A Happy New Year."
This is the time of the year when we
make new resolutions and renew old ones.
Howard Payne has many new resolutions but
none we believe is so pre-eminent in the
hearts of her students as that resolution-
motto that has been ours through all the
years. The Yellow Jacket wants to express
to the world her wishes for a Happy New
Year and to renew that groat resolut ion that
fills the heart of every follower of the Cold
and Blue "For Howard Payne My All."
