Education Is the apprentice-
ship of Life Wlllmott.
The summer has been a long one
but as It now draws to nn end school
activities arc once more becoming a
part of everyday life and routine. . .
Yes It's the life this college system
and we're all glad to get back des-
pite the grand and super times we had
this summer at our homes wherever
they might be. . . It took us forty-
eight hours of constant driving with-
out sleep to get back but it was worth
It.
Those of you who aie here have
made a worthwhile decision In choos-
ing Howard Payne. It is a place
where everybody is somebody. Where
everv one of you can take part In the
many auricular and extra-curricular
actlvltlcs that It enfolds. It's yours
what you do here and what you take
away with you will be up to you. Make
the most' of it
The eminent Alexander Woollcott
was once penning some of his sage
advice to young men and women who
Intended entering the newspaper bus-
iness. Woollcott spun a long list of
reasons why this particular profession
was much too tough to tackle. But
then concluded the ctltic after nil his
gloomy picllminartcs: "If any of my
young renders allow this sort of talk
to dissuade them from entering the
field of journalism why probably It Is
just as well- for I don't think they are
made of the stuff of great reporters."
For those of you student's on the
Howard Payne campus who would like
a peek at the profession of journal
ism although facilities aie not In
comparison with the extensive field
you will have a chance while here to
discover your talents if any by tak-
ing part In the two college publica-
tions the Yellow Jacket official
weekly publication and The Lasso of-
ficial yeaibook.
Howard Payne College and Yel-
low Jacket tradition is known by
the slogan "For Howard Payne
My All" and Its typical Howard
Payne Spirit. Where did the spirit
and slogan wander off to during
Howard Payne-North Texas
State Teachers gridiron contest
last Friday night? Where was the
traditional pep typical of Howard
Payne students? These are some
of the questions that are being
asked by Brownwood business
men Jacket supporters ct al.
It's not the fault of the Freshmen.
It takes them a few days to pick it up
from the uppei classmen ct with no
pep In the upperclassmen where are
they going to get It? It takes 12 men
to win a football game and that 12th
man Is you. It is all-Important for a
winning football club. Attend pep ral-
lies. Get some pep nnd spirit. Show
the boys and coaches you're behind
them and the next time we see them
on the field we'll see a winning ma-
chine the real Howard Payne Yellow
Jacket juggernaut.
