(By Associated Press!
Austin, Texas, July 26.—Farmers
from every section of the slate are
resorting to the use cf sulphur fumes
fh an effort to combat the ravages of
the boll weevil in the cotton fields,
according to the statement of a repre-
sentative of a large sulphur manufac-
turing concern at Freeport, who has
beenj in conference with the state de-
partment of agriculure. This com-
pany, the representative stated, is
receiving hundreds of orders for crude
requesting information as to the best
method to be employed in burning the
sulphur for the purpose of creating
heavy clouds of fumes which spread
over the fields and destroy the weevil.
This method of fighting the toll wee-
vil, said the representative of the
Preeport company, is not entirely new.
and has shown encouraging results.

have been discovered by the state de-
partment of agriculture, which is re-
ceiving reports from Couth Texas
in progress.
The state department of agriculture
in a statement concerning this matter
said:
“While crude domestic oil, owing to
heavy importation of foreign oils, is
somewhat" lower than last year, the
difference does not begin to justify
the attempt to start the market so
low.
“C#ttonseed should be worth, on a
comparative basis wifcc the price of
other feedstuffs, at least $50 a ton
merely for feeding purposes. Of course
buyers do not expect reasonably to se-
cure much cottonseed at such price
as $25 per ton but being aware that
so few farmers are fixed for cotton
seed storage they know nom past ex-
perience that they wiil get some seed
at the outset for, whatever price may
be offered."
