The French military balloon Zodiae
collapsed at a height of 650 feet over
Noisy LeGrand and fell to the ground
with its five occupants, ail of wham
were killed. Observers saw the bal-
loon suddenly shrivel up and fall and
when they reached the aeronauts three
were dead and the other two died
before reaching the hospital. The
collapse was due to s tear In th%

tionally made, the theory being that
something went wrong with one of
the valves and one of the men lost
his head and cut the cover, causing
the immediate deflation of the bag.
