UNDERGROUND SILOS
NOW IN BROWN COUNTY.
Thla morning’s Fort Worth Record
■ays:
"According to several people who
have recently been In Brown county,
a farmer named L. a. Knape, living
about 18 miles southwest of Brown-
wood, baa just about solved the proV
lem of cheaply made silos. Knape,
who learned how to farm on the con-
tinent, has three underground silos,
each of 100 tons capacity. These
alios are dug like a well, only of
course some larger, and are lined
with cement and concrete. They are
topped off with cotton seed hulls un-
til the ensilage is needed. The en-
silage can either be pitched from the
silos, or It can be drawn from them
with the fans that are' used to MU
the-above-ground kind, by ' reversing
tie blade#.
“It Is slab stated that E. E. Kirk-
patrick, secretary of the Brownwood
Chamber of Commerce, la preparing a
pamphlet oh'the success had by Mr.
Knape* With hla underground silos,
which will be distributed by the
Brownwfad boosters without coat.
Knape. L is said, used about $15
worth of} cement in each alio, the oth-
er cost being the digging and placing
the concrete) in place.”
