Baytown Baptist church met re-
cently at Faith Mission for their
regular program.
Mrs. E. v'. Vick led the song
service with Mrs. Ralph Reagan
at the piano. Mrs. Bertha Cantu
and her daughters sang a special
song, and Mrs. 0. B. Rhoden gave
the devotional on1 “Good Neigh-
bors."
Mrs. J, M. Lilly presided over
the business meeting and plans
were made for visiting a neighbor
church with a missionary program.
Mrs. Jessie Cornwall gave the
closing prayer, and refreshments
were served to 36 members.

Smith of Cold Springs announce
the marriage of their daughter,
Naoma Leigh, to Earl Hogue, son
of.Mr.«and Mrs. Walter Earl Ho-
gue or Highlands. The wedding

Miss Beatrice Ruth Schmitz,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Schmitz of Iowa, was married in
San Diego recently to ACOM. Ce-
cil Hollingshead, USN, son of Mr,
and Mrs. Philip H. Hollingshead of
Baytown.
Mr. Hollingshead is a graduate
of Robert E, Lee high school and
has been in service six years, two
of which were spent in the South
Pacific. The couple are at home
in San Diego when; Mr. Hollings-
head is now stationed.
HOUSTON, Oct. 17. J. F.
Riggs, superintendent of an elec-
tric company, things he is equip-
ping a competitor at his own ex-
pense.
Riggs reported today that nine
transformers, used on neon adver-
tising signs, had been stolen in
the last week. The thieves were
electrical experts, he said, as from
12,000 to 15,000 volts ran through
each transformer.

given a preliminary hearing Wed-
nesday in justice of the peace
court on a third charge of felony
theft filed after he admitted thie
theft of cars in the Tri-Cjfies,
Judge R. R. Zicrlein set Akins'
bond at $500 in the theft of a car
owned by R. F, Johnson of Cros-
by. A charge filed against him for
the theft of Luke Lambright’s car
was referred directly to the grand,

Akins has been held in jaH the
past week under bonds totalling
$1,000 on two other charges of
rar theft. _ . _.
