FRESHMAN-TRANSFER INITIATION
Concluding events of initiation are planned for Saturday
Oct. 3. The H-pond is to be cleaned at 3 p.m. Initiates are to be
dressed up for the football game. First second and third
place prizes for the best dressed will be awarded. The
initiation party for initiates only is planned at 10:30 p.m. in
the Gold Room of Richardson Hall. Big brothers and sisters
are encouraged to pay the $1.00 admission fee.

Results of the Sept. 17 election are as follows: SA

Stewart.
Freshman senators' election was declared invalid by the
Senate Association in regular session Sept. 22. A future
election to fill senate offices is being planned.
CAMPUS BAPTIST YOUNG WOMEN
State Campus Baptist Young Women and Acteens Director
Barbara Curnutt will speak Monday Sept. 28 at a meeting of
the Howard Payne Campus Baptist Young Women.
The meeting will be held at 9 p.m.in the Veda Hodge Hall
Blue Room.
Miss Curnutt will address the group on what other CBYW
groups are doing and how the local campus can get involved
with other groups Bonnie Moran president of the HP group
said.
"Campus Baptist Young Women is for all women on the HP
campus who are interested in mission study mission action
Bible study and prayer groups" Miss Moran said. The
Howard Payne CBYW will meet twice a month at 9 p.m. on
Thursdays in the third floor meeting room at Veda Hodge
Hall.
YELLOW JACKET SPECTACULAR
Auditions for the 1981 version of the Yellow Jacket Spec-
tacular a stage revue to be performed at Homecoming Oct.
30 and 31 will be Tuesday Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. in Mims
Auditorium said Joseph McClain Jr. assistant professor of
music and producer of the show.
McClain said that the auditions are open to anyone on
campus and to individual or group acts.
Potential acts should contact him or sign up on the list to be
posted Oct. 1 in the foyer of Mims.
LAHORABAUnSTA
Saturday Sept. 26 is the date for the La Hora Bautlsta
walk-a-thon to raise money for homecoming events spring
break mission trip and weekend revivals. Participants will
meet in front of Veda Hodge Hall at 8:30 a.m. and walk four
miles to Bangs Hill. To sponsor a participant contact any La
Hora officer or Karla Martinez at ext. 212.
THE STING
Student material now is being accepted for the Sting
campus literary and fine arts publication said Maria
Mathena editor. Thp first issue is scheduled Oct. 9.
Original poetry short fiction essays sermons or
devotionals and musical compositions are needed as well as
photography and art work. Submissions may be sent to Miss
Mathena at Box 170 Veda Hodge Hall or Box 173 Jennings
Hall.
PARENTS' DAY
Plans are now underway for Parents' Day on Saturday
Oct. 10. Reservations of $2.75 are being accepted for the
picnic to be held at noon at Riverside Park. Students of at-
tending parents will be admitted with student identification.
An organizational meeting of the Mothers' Club will be held
at 3 p.m. in Mims Auditorium. Tours of the Academy of
Freedom will be offered at 10 and 11 a.m. 1:30 2:30 and 3:30
p.m.
Parents will be recognized at halftime at the game between
HP and Southwest Texas State Saturday night. An after-
game fellowship in Veda Hodge Hall cafeteria for all parents
and students is planned.

LASSO PORTRAITS
Students and faculty and staff personnel who did not have
yearbook portraits made during registration are asked to do

The portraits will be made at Burk's Studio 816 Avenue C-

TSEA-NEA
An organizational meeting of TSEA-NEA is announced for
Monday Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. in M-201. All education students
welcome.

Enrollment up
A total of 1437 students are
enrolled in Howard Payne
University this fall a 9.3 per-
cent increase over 1980 fall
enrollment said Dr. Ralph A.
Phelps Jr. HP president.
The enrollment figures in-
clude registration through Sept.
21 with 1373 students
registered on the HP campus
and 64 at the Corpus Christl
campus.
The 1437 total is an increase
of 123 students over the 1314
figure last fall. The HP campus
total is up 107 students from
1266 while Corpus Christ!
enrollment is up 16 students
from 48 in the fall of 1980.
Lecture-recital
to be Tuesday
Members of the faculty in the
Howard Payne University
School of Music will present a
lecture-recital written by HP
Composer-In-Resldence John
Hilliard at 3 p.m. Tuesday in
Mims Auditorium on the HP
campus.
The program will consist of a
discussion and a reading of "In
Their Living Time" recently
commissioned by the Virginia
Center for Creative Arts.
Assistant Professors of Music
at Howard Payne to be featured
on the program include Joseph
McClain voice; Alan Smith
piano; and Mike Knedler
woodwinds. Deborah Patty of
the Fort Worth Symphony will
be guest artist. Ms. Patty was
recently awarded at the
Tanglewood Music Festival in
Massachusetts.
Hilliard wrote the work for
tenor voice clarinet cello and
piano this summer while in
residence at the Virginia Center
for Creative Arts. It is
dedicated to the memory of
Helen K. Phelps the late wife of
HP President Dr. Ralph A.
Phelps Jr. Hilliard said. Text
for the work is taken from
Pulitzer Prize-winning poet
James Agee's dedication to his
first book of poems "Permit
me Voyage."
