Parade begins day
The annual Howard
Payne homecoming parade
gets underway at 9:30 a.m.
tomorrow with five bands
eight floats and 11 non-float
entries participating said
Peggy Thrall student
Homecoming Committee
chairwoman.
The parade will start on
Center Avenue at the cor-
ner of Center and Austin
avenues travel down
Center to Broadway and
down Broadway to Fisk
Avenue. The parade will
then go down Fisk back to
the HP campus.
All entries for the parade
should be in line at 9 a.m.
All floats to be judged must

Entertainment."
Highlights of the
weekend will be the
homecoming parade at
9:30 a.m. Saturday
dedication of the Phelps Bi-
ble Building 10:30 a.m.
Saturday the football
game between HP and
from Coleman Dublin
Hamilton Early and HP.
These five bands will also
be at the homecoming foot-
ball game between HP and
Angelo State at 2 p.m. at
Gordon Wood Stadium.
Floats entered represent
the senior junior
sophomore and freshman
classes at HP. Delta Chi
Rho and Gamma Beta Phi
will also be represented.

Saturday and the Yellow
Jacket Spectacular variety
show tonight and Saturday
night at 8 p.m.
The weekend gets under-
way at 2 p.m. Friday with
the traditional freshman
drum beating activities at
the Freedom Garden. The
Freshman Class has the
responsibility of beating
the drum for 24 hours until
the 2 p.m. kickoff time at
the football game
Saturday.
The Distinguished Alum-
ni Reception is scheduled
for6:30p.m. in Veda Hodge
Hall. The Distinguished
Alumni for 1962 Miss Mary
Elizabeth Truly of San
Angelo and James L.
Cooper of Dallas will be
honored at that time.
At 8 p.m. both Friday and
Saturday nights the third
annual "Yellow Jacket
Spectacular" variety show
will be presented by the HP
School of Music. Acts are
the result of a school-wide
talent search. The show
will featuring popular
music comedy and
magical acts. Tickets may
be purchased at the door at
a cost of $3.50 or $2.50 each.
A pep rally for the Yellow
Jacket football team will
be held at 10:30 p.m. Fri-
day near the Freedom
Garden on Fisk Avenue. An
Angelo State mascot the
ram will be burned in ef-
figy and head football
coach Bill Hicks will speak.
Saturday's events begin
early for returning alumni
with organizational reu-
nions and coffee and
doughnuts in Winebrenner
Hall at 7:30 a.m. Registra-
tion for exes and alumni
gets underway at 8:30 a.m.
in Mims Auditorium.
One of the biggest
parades in several years
for Howard Payne starts at
9:30 a.m. Saturday. It will
begin at the corner of
Center Avenue and Austin
Avenue and will travel to
South Broadway and back
down Fisk Avenue to the
campus.
The processional will
feature five bands in-
cluding Howard Payne's
Swinging Stinger Band as

The Homecoming Com-
mittee requests that all
vehicles be moved off
Center Avenue by 7 a.m. to
line up the parade and that
all floats and non-floats be
lined up at 8:30 a.m. in
order to be judged.
At 10:30 a.m. the Phelps
Bible Building will be
dedicated. The building
the first built on the main
HP campus since 1963 was
named after HP president
Dr. Ralph A. Phelps Jr.
since he served as general
contractor job supervisor
and fund-raiser for the
building. Dr. James H.
Landes executive director
of the Baptist General Con-
vention of Texas will give
the dedicatory address.
The alumni business
meeting for exes will be at
11:30 a.m. in Mims
Auditorium to be followed
by a barbecue luncheon at
Jacket Gym for both
students and visitors.
Students must show their
I.D.s to be admitted and
visitors must pay $4.50
each.
Departmental reunions
will be held at 1 p.m. in the
departmental buildings.
At 2 p.m. Howard Payne
hosts Angelo State in foot-
ball at Gordon Wood
Stadium. At halftime the
1982 Homecoming Queen
Susan England will be
presented along with the
1982 Coming Home Queen
Mrs. Reuby Rhodes. Both
the Angelo State and the
Howard Payne bands will

Immediately after the
football game anniversary
reunion banquets for the
classes of '72 '62 '57 '52
47 '42 '37 '32 and earlier
at five-year intervals will
be held on campus and in
different locations around
the city.
The first-ever alumni
basketball game will take
place at 7 p.m. Saturday in
Yellow Jacket Gym. The
game features outstanding
athletes from the classes of
1962 and 1972 and will also
feature former yell leaders
from the two classes. One
