The cull is out another year for students to consider
running as write-in candidates for the positions of class
offices Student Association senators and Student
Union Board members.
Student have only filed for 22 positions out of 32 posi-
tions to be listed on the April 19 ballots. Thus a total of
10 positions can only be filled initially by write-in
voting
The deadline for filing for a place on the ballot is
past. Clarence Bagby Election Committee Chairman
said write-ins are welcome but "Write-in candidates
must abide by all campaign rules except those per-
taining to petition and Senate meeting attendance."
He said the Senior Class needs candidates for vice
president a secretary and a treasurer.
The Junior Class needs candidates for vice president
a treasurer and one senator.
The ballot for the Sophomore Class lacks specified
candidates for secretary and two senators.
The SUB positions still open are vice president and
junior and senior representatives.
Write-in hopefuls because of the way that HP elec-
tions are run should also campaign. Simple fill-in-the-blank
voting by one student's friends could result in
political defeat for the serious write-in candidate.

How 'Not' to Quite When Your Down
"From that time on Jesus began to preach..."
Matthew 4 :17a (NIV)
"Discouragement is faced by everyone at one time
or another" said Julie "but no one should let it get
them down."
She was trying to console Pete who had just told her
his recent disappointments and troubles.
"Remember how Christ while on earth was alone in
the desert had fasted for 40 davs was tempted three
times by Satan himself and then heard that his good
friend John the Baptist was put in prison?" she asked.
"Even though he is our supreme example he was fac-
ed with seemingly inescapable problems but he didn't
quite.
"All the bad circumstances he went through just
reinforced his mission and goal in life. And so can your
hard times" she comforted Pete referring him to
Matthew chapter 4 and the immediacy of Jesus'
ministry after his trials.

Can a Howard Payne
graduate make it big time
in the world of contem-
porary Christian music?
Yes of course and Cynthia
Clawson is the evidence
that proves it. Her new
album with Priority
Records "Forever" is
the best she's ever done.
Every cut on the album is
a personal statement of
dedication and praise to
God. "Come celebrate
Jesus" and "Get Happy"
are two great songs of hope
and praise that delight the
ears and inspire the heart.
"Heaven" and "I'll Keep
My Eyes on You" are
'Forever'
inspiring
beautiful songs that ex-
press God's eternal plan
and his everlasting love.
Not only does this album
display Cynthia's
beautifully clear voice but
also it has some of the
richest inspirational back-
up music that can be heard.
A song such as the title cut
"Forever" would be just as
worshipful even if there
were no vocals but there
are and it adds an even
more worshipful
dimension.
If you've never enjoyed
inspirational music you
haven't tried Cynthia
Clawson. This is a very
entertaining album as well
as a Christian inspiration.
"Forever" contains songs
that will live in the heart of
the listener forever.

Letters to the Editor
Queridos Lectores
I wish to express love and
deep gratitude to La Hora
Bautista for allowing me to
sponsor their mission trip
to Ojinaga Mexico during
the spring break. Their
deep spiritual commitment
and hard work during those
days were the highest ex-
ample of our Lord walking
among the souls he loves.
All ten students were just
excellent at teaching Bible
stories and verses to those
precious children. The Bi-
ble school grew from 17 to
120 overflowing the little 8
x 16 adobe building. The at-
tendance for the nightly
revival services did the
same. The love-empowered
preaching of those four
young preachers brought
down the Holy Spirit to br-
ing many to the Lord.
We stayed with a
marvelous Mexican mis-
sionary family who is
everything you ever im-
agined and dreamed of in
mission endeavor.
Remember that little mis
sion and those missionaries
in prayer and gratitude
and go there and help. You
will receive more than you
give when you teach and
love little Spanish-speaking
children in the Lord.
