Profile
Triathlete Dan Murray Wins Second in Lone Star Triathlon
By Julie Anderson
If you haven't noticed him yet you
haven't been looking because it's not
hard to miss triathlete Dan Murray
around campus.
Dan a sophomore at Howard Payne
just competed in the Lone Star Full
Triathlon in Bandera Texas where he
placed second overall.
Before the race. Dan had fears like
any other athlete before a competition.
"I was worried about a guy named
Mike Baker. With this kind of race you
make a race plan beforehand and try to
stay with it" explained Dan.
"The worst thing you can do is try to
run someone else's race. I knew Mike
would be ahead of me out of the water
because he's a great swimmer and I
knew he'd be ahead of me biking
because he's a great biker too."
Dan said that his plan was to stay
close enough to him to make it up in
the run.
"But when I got off the bike I was
45 minutes behind. I assumed he'd run
a four hour marathon and I knew I
couldn't run a 3:15 to make up that
time so I decided to just be happy with
second so I just took it easy on the
run" said Dan.
Winning second place is a great
accomplishment for Dan but he feels
that winning isn't in placing or
trophies.
"An important thing to remember is
that you can place first second or
one-hundred and second bwt you never
have to lose a race" explained Dan.
"Winning isn't a place or a trophy.
It is a mind set a way of thinking.
You can always pick out a positive
thing."
Dan continued to explain that he
doesn't always place high.
"I've placed from second to
nineteenth twentieth to two-hundredeth
but it's important to see what you did
Letter to the Editors
To the Editors:
It has come to our attention that Dr.
Milhomme Associate Professor in the
School of Business has been relieved of
his teaching responsibilities. As his
students we are naturally concerned
about his well-being and we feel that we
have the right to know why. ..why a
man of with such superior educational
qualifications and experience has been
dismissed by the administration of
Howard Payne University.
For those of you who are not
familiar with Dr. Milhomme and his
outstanding credentials we would like
to present you with the following
information.
Dr. Milhomme possesses two
bachelors degrees in Engineering from
two different universities in France. He
received his Masters of Science in
Petroleum Engineering from the
University of California at Berkeley and
he received his Docto.ate of Philosophy
in management from the University of
Texas at Austin.
To back up Dr. Milhomme's degrees
he has vast experience in the
international world of business.
Because of space limitation it is
impossible to go into great detail
however we would like to list a few
highlights from his career.
- Employed by the United Nations
Industrial Development Organization for
three years
- Managed School of Management in
the Ivory Coast
- Founder of two subsidiaries of a
construction firm: ready-mix concrete
firm and dredging firm
- Held positions of both Sales and
Research Engineer for a
heavy-equipment manufacturer in France
- Taught courses and conducted
numerous seminars at both the
under-graduate and graduate levels in
various areas such as marketing
business policy finance accounting
management and other business related
topics in France Africa and the United
States.
- Has had nine papers published in
various literary works
But beyond his material
accomplishments Dr. Milhomme has a
genuine interest in us his students.
Since his arrival at Howard Payne he
has created six international business
courses to further our understanding of
business worldwide. In the classroom
in his office or at his home Dr.
Milhomme is always available to the
students. He has a unique way of
presenting academics in conjunction
with real-world experiences and
applications as well as the perspective
of two different cultures.
We his students feel that you as
the student body should question why a
man of such high caliber education and
real-world business experience has been
dismissed from HPU. As concerned
students we would like to ask the
administration to reconsider its decision
which we feel is not in the best interest
of Howard Payne students.
Sincerely
Blane Radenz
Debra Mauldin
Raymond Ramirez
well and concentrate on that.
"Somebody's always going to be
first or last but they can both win the
race" said Dan.
It's easy to sec why Dan is a winner.
But most of all he places himself
according to God's standards.
"Before the race I just said 'just
think about it as your placement being
God's will and anyplace in God's race is
a good place to be" concluded Dan.
Dan's next triathalon will be in two
weeks at the Border Classic in Del Rio
Texas. His girlfriend Mary Combs
will also be competing. Mary won her
age group last year and Dan feels she'll.
do.it again this year and he himself
hopes to-place well too.
