The Houston Post-Dispatch Mrs*
has the following to say, edi-
torially, in regard to the death
of Mr. Bagby:
•Will Bagby of Hallettsvilie
is dead. When he served in
the Texas legislature he was
known as “The Lion of Lava-
ca.” This because of his emi-
nence as an orator and de-
bater. A brilliant mind is lost
to Texas and an eloquent ton-
gue stilled in his passing. It
will be regretted oy many ul
his political opponents as well
as a large circle of friends.
Oratory, according to Judge
H. M. Garwood of Houston, is
a pst art. With that opinion
it s not possible to agree so
long as the judge himself is
among us. And there are some
other prominent Texans who
really can speak like the
giants of old. But we haven’t
a great many orators in these
days. The average public
speech is very matter-of-fact
It may convince us, but it
doesn’t sweep us off our feet
like some of the old-time ora
tions. * . ’' V ; / • ••"‘7
