Agriculture Needs
Organizab'on
Today’s farmers and ranch-
ers are the producing marvels
of the world. As agriculture
Incomes more and more ef-
ficient fewer and fewer pro-
ducers are needed to grow our
food and fl[ier, accordl ng to
Llano County Farm Bureau of-
ficials.
This efficiency means that
more people are free to work
In other Industries to create
the wealth of goods and ser-
vices that go to make up our
high standard of tlvtng, and
that less of the family’s tgke-
home pay Is needed to buy
groceries.
What it has also meant t&
producers is overporductlon.
Because of this, prlceSTor farm
products have not risen nearly
as murfias-prices farmers must
pay for production and- family
living Kerns,
Agriculture producers today
represent only aixiut five per
gent of the total population of
this county. If farmers and
ranchers are ever to have any
voice in the market place and
in places \lhere laws are made
affecting their Industry, they
are going to have to get or-
ganized. ' Tills is no time for
rugged individualism on the
farm. It is the time for parti-
cipation in a responsible or-
ganization.
The Llano County Farm Bu-
reau is conducting a county-
wide drive for members Feb-
ruary 14 through the 18. Dues
are "paid on an annual basts.
Tills means the Farm Bureau
must go • back, to each indivi-
dual rpember once a year for
renewal of its programs. This
is a soilnd approach to organiz-
ing. It Is [>erhaps the only way
to guarantee that an organiza-
tion is responsive to its mem-
bership. "
The Llano County Farm Bu-
reau deserves the active sup-
port of all who make their liv-
ing in agriculture. ■
