Durst lectures Culture
Club on rock hunting
At the Monday, April 10 meeting
of the Llano Woman’s Culture
Club, Martha Long introduced

Springs, a recognized topaz
authority who charmed the ladies
with her enthusiastic and
knowledgeable account of the topaz
and rock hunting in general Edna
Earl from Mason read the poem
“Reflections of a Rock Hound."
The topaz, the official State gem,
is found primarily in the Llano
uplift area of Mason County, The
topaz always forms on another rock
and is much heavier than quartz.
Durst displayed her collection of
topaz including many lovely topaz
rings, pins, pendants, etc. Blue
Topaz is found only in Mason
County, and golden topaz is found
in Brazil. Two ranches in Mason,
The Seaquest Ranch and the Wayne
Hoffman Ranch, allow day rock
hunting for a fee. The NuWay
Grocery in Mason has the keys
President Sue Prime conducted
the business meeting and gave
several committee reports in the
absence of two chairmen She

donation to the club by Marie and
Carl Schneider, and the success of
the recent Tour of Homes. On April

Llano’s first library will be
dedicated. It is the rock building
which now houses the County
Clerk's office by the courthouse.

that the clubhouse has been rented
several times in April which helps

donations to New Horizons which
helps families in crisis situations
