ANNOUNCEMENTS.
For Publio Weigher Preoinot 5—
Will Thomas,
Claude Hiohtower.
This is not very good weather
for a man to get down on his
knees in the cotton patoh.
The presidential leg was not so
sore but that it oould kiok a hole
into the coal strike situation.
Now is a good time to take a
look at the crossings and the
places where the sidewalks ought
to be. ________
Lieutenant Peary says he did
not lose the north pole and does
not propose to hunt any more
for it. 1
Now that President Roosevelt
has taken a hand in the ooal
strike the chances of an early
settlement are very favorable.
The Washington dootors are
very busy pulling the presiden-
tial leg. If Mr. Roosevelt don’t'
look out they will have his leg off
and gone.
The prioe of ooal is going up
as the oool weather approaches.
This has been caused by the ooal
strike in the east. We under-
stand this is not true of the Rock
Creek mines, as the old price is
still maintained. The people of
Mineral Wells are to be congrat-
ulated on their good luck.
This morning as we came down
wondering if it was ever going to
quit rainiQg and if frost would
nip the top orop and the seoond
planting ©f^ooror our mind was
particularly aotive; the town cow
came in for a lot of sympathy;
the large crop of dogs was given
a fleeting thought, and we had
just succeeded in crossing the
street in safety, when our reverie
was interrupted by the falling of
an old dead (roe alpoost direotly
in our path. The reader will no
doubt ask if there was anything
very startling about that. No,
not exactly; only just before see-
ing the tree fall we met an old
gray-haired gentleman, and the
falling of the tree brought us face
to face with the fact that Old
Father Time was on our trail
and would no doubt serve’alljas he
had done the tree. Some cold,
rainy morning we would cease to
extend our limbs heavenward
and fall by the wayside. Some
of us, like the scrubby old oak,
(whioh had borne no fruit or fur-
nished no shade to cool the hot
form of the weary pedestrian,)
have,by our selfish habits,failed
ttf'erect living monuments to our
memory, and will return to dust,
like the oak, our memory lost
forever, unwept and unsung.
