City Federation Busily
at Work
The City Federation of Women’s
Clubs has done an extensive work
since its reorganization or revival
last year. Under the capable leader-u,
ship of Miss Carrie Reaves, the up- L,,^
stairs of the Carnegie Library wag
beautified new floors laid, and the
entire upstairs made into a credit-
able eftib room. Under the splendid
leadership of Mrs. B. A. Fowler, the
new president, this work has been
furthered and preparations are be-
ing made for the entertainment of
the Sixth District Federation. Work
in the City Federation is transacted
through an executive board, which
is composed of members of each
federated chib. Two meetings are
being held each month, a social and
a business meeting. To defray all
expenses of the work which has been
undertaken the clubs are divided in-
to groups, each group giving a ben-
efit party or otherwise making their
appointment. A number of parties
have been given and others are be-
ing planned for the near future.
J. P. McCord, president of the school
board, and C. H. Hufford. superin-
tendent of city schools.
“The citizens of Coleman may well
boast that they have one of the best
organised, equipped, taught and kept
school systems in Central West
Texas,” the report begins. “Much
effort and money have been spent
tn the improvement of the system
during the past few years, and today
both grade and high school pupils
are housed in modern and well
planned buildings." the report con-
Unties.
Fine Type of Order
Further the report says: “One of
the outstanding features which will
surprise a> visitor to the schools is
the wonderful type of order found
everywhere? Not a defacement was
found in any building or' on any
furniture. No lock step system was
in evidence. The answer to high
type or worker is found in the fact
that a course In citizenship U of-
fered every student in the system."
The following recommendations
were made:
(1) That additional fiction be
for the high school library
and some reference sets such as
World Book or Compton's Pictured
Knowledge and physiological charts
be added to each ward school.
(3) That two more compound
microscopes be added to the biolog-
ical laboratory. !
(3) That two grade teachers and
one high school teacher be added for
the 1*29-30 term.
The lower primary rooms are
overcrowded both with students and
sections of grades.
(4) That hereafter biology be
limited to students of grades nine
