Movie expresses divorce
"Shoot The Moon" starring
Diane Keaton and Albert Finney
is an enigma The storv never
rcall) resolves and the feeling
among the characters is never
quite clear. This is prcciscl) what
makes the movie great
The film's basic story line is not
unfamiliar A couple find their
marriage falling apart the man is
fooling around and four kids arc
caught in the middle. But in the
film the plot is explored carcfullv
and masterfully. None of the
subleties of emotion are lost
partis due to to sterling per-
formances b) Keaton and Finney.
Most of the movie's greatness
however comes from the rela-
tionships between the characters
One is never quite sure whether
thes love or hate each other just
as thev are uncertain For
example at the beginning of the
stors it seems clear that Keaton
and Finney hate each other. 1 hen
later when they actually talk some
things out it seems that they
really do love each other and the
viewer prepares himself for a
happs ending But the end is
ans thing but happy.
Another uncertain relationship

After all how often do sou get the
chance to go to five great films for
free and even get the bonus of a
college scries credit for seeing
them too?
We've got the jump-rope a thon

develops between Finney and his
sensitive eldest daughter. She
hates him at first because she
knows that he is having an affair.
Hut one gets the feeling that she
hates him so much because she
loses him so much. In the end this
love starts to show through but
their relationship is always shaky.
The end of the movie perfectly
encapsulates these feelings of
uncertainty. The end doesn't
wrap everythin up and tie it into a
neat little bundle tor us. I his will
seem maddening to some but I
think it is perfect. It leaves us still
not knowing exactly how the
characters feel towards each
other
This sums up the purpose of this
enigmatic movie-it expresses the
enigmatic feelings of divorce
People both love and dislike each
other but can never decide which
cxactls
All in all the movie is excellent
A good plot a sensitive script
and marvelous actors give the
film everything it needs to satisfy
the requirement for greatness Go
and sec it

showing at the Westwood Cinema

I ven when vou're in vour room

vou're all lis vourself
it's so comforting to hear the
radios. TVs phones and convcr
satious of the people in the rooms
on cither side across the hall up
the stairs down the stairs and
eseu outside. Just knowing that if
I were to have a life-threatening
accident like dropping a bottle of
lotion on im foot 57 girls from all
over the dorm would be there in
an instant to aid me in my time of
need.
Another good thing about being
able to hear anv thing and overs-
tiling that goes on is having
people to answer jour telephone
So if vou don't know who called

And if lis chance sou forgot what
sou said or what was said to sou
during an important call all sou
have to do is ask someone who
happened to be walking in the
general area of vour room. Thev 'II

Another thing I like is the wide

need to bother turning on vour
stereo Just listen to ever) one

what sou want to listen to no
