US combines Holy Spirit music
By LAURA LEIGH McLEOD
What do you get when you
bring three individuals filled with
laughter music and the love of
the Lord together give them a
banjo and guitars and a messaue
to proclaim?
You get the group US. Kerry
Patton Perry Adkisson and John
Monto alt McMurry students
comprise this contemproary
Christian group that has started
to make quite a name for itself.
They all entered McMurry this
past fall as freshman. John is
from Houston majoring In music
business. Kerry is from Roscoe.
majoring in music production.
Perry is from Abilene majoring
In religion and music. Three
significantly different individuals
with two major factors bringing
them together: music and the
Lord.
The first time they got together
was the CLF Howdy Party. Kerry
sang at the party and after-
wards began singing for fun with
John and Perry. Kerry and Perry
became roommates and the
friendship with John grew.
Perry plays the banjo and
guitar while Kerry plays guitar.
John became the sound tech-
nician for the DfOlin nnH hue
begun to play the guitar also.
During the fall semester the
group played at Rotan and
Throckmorton. "We did ununi-
fied concerts" Kerry explains
"We were all individualistic In
our styles. It was solo acts In a
group concert."
John commented on their con-
cert attire "We were all in-
i ic mnmrB i . iu4i n a j... ... ... o'viauais. we an orcssea to our
wwmoiiiuoia you iu hUmW rwuy MUMuuun oonn MOMO own personalities."
and Kerry Patton rehearse in their dorm room. (Photo by The word "individual" kept
Tony White) reoccurring throughout the in-
tervlew. But so did the word US.

During a search for a group
name the group read through
scriptures. Kerry suggested
calling the group Us.
"That was quickly voted down
"Perry said" but the word kept
coming up in our conversations.
Others suggested it. We finally
decided to call the group US."
Kerry replied "It stands for
everyone singers and audience.
We are different yet music and
the Lord brought us together."
Now US stands for United
Servants.
The spring semester started
with a renewed spirit in the
group. US became more unified
and have several concerts
planned. They traveled to Hobbs
New Mexico and to Fort Stockton
as representatives of McMurry's
annual fund drive. They played at
a church service and a youth rally
as well as for the dinners. They
have played at First Methodist of
Abilene and are now repre-
sentatives of the church. Coming
concerts include Roscoe Hobbs
Houston and Munday.
The group contains several
characteristics that are unique.
They all sing different parts than
usual. In Chanters John sings
bass Perry sings First tenor and
Kerry second tenor. Yet In US
John sings first tenor Perry-
melody line and Kerry-baritone.
The styles that are played consist
of Christian bluegrass rock
country and ballad. They all write
songs and sing them together.
Humor is a big part of the
program. Kerry said "We enjoy
humor. The jokes are sometimes
bad though." Perry added
"We're the only ones who lough
at them."
The question surrounding the
future hangs in the air. John
replied. "We have already
started our ministry. We will go
where the Lord leads us."
US is full of humor laughter
music and love for the Lord.
They can truly bless one's life for
in their music they show hap-
piness truth and love. US is a
group that shows individuals can
truly come together as one in the
Lord.
As it says in Matthew 18:20
"where two or three are gathered
In my name there will I be also."
