Art League of Baytown
The Art League of Baytown is planning its annual art show in
April.
The exhibition will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m to
10 p.m. April 22-May 16 at the community building.
Those eligible to participate in the show are members of the
Baytown Art League or non-members who reside within the Goose
Creek Independent School District.
Entries must be delivered in person to the community building
from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 6:30-7:30 p.m. April 18. Paintings must re-
main until May 16, and may be picked up between 10 a.m. and 7:30
p.m.
Entry fee is $4 per entry for members and $6 for nonmembers.
Each artist may enter four works.
There will be three categories: Advanced, Intermediate and
Beginner.
In the advanced and intermediate categories, all work must be
original and completed within the last two years and not previously
exhibited.in an art show in Baytown. No copies or work done in a
supervised workshop or class is acceptable.
As an encouragement for beginning artists, no restrictions will be
enforced. Copies will be accepted, although original work is en-
couraged. Ribbons will be awarded, but work in this category will not
be considered for cash awards.
%. , All paintings must be dry, framed and securely wired for hanging,
v Watercolors, pastels, prints and drawings must be framed under
* cl^ss or plexiglass. No nudes are permitted in the community
building. Right is reserved to refuse any painting not properly
j prepared for hanging.
All reasonable care will be given to the entries, but works are sub-
mitted at the artist’s risk.
v Judging the show will be Warren Cullar, prominent water color ar-
; tist.
The reception and awards ceremony will be held from 7-9 p.m.
April 22 in the lobby and meeting room of the community building.
, The awards presentation will begin at 8 p.m.
■' Awards will be given for Best of Show, $150; Purchase Awhrd,
$150; People’s Choice, Floral Award and other cash awards and rib-
bons.

nounced by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Lee Ray of Friendswood.
Kovalcik is the son of Joe and Linda Searcy of Baytown. A March 26

Ann Trask of La Porte is organizing an art appreciation tour of
French June 5-19 for members of the Art League and other interested

Leona Kelley of Anahuac has joined the league and brought Ethyle
White of Anahuac, Juanita Moore and Allene Billeaud to the last

; Russel Cushmann will have a workshop for members interested in
;* oil painting. Cost will be $25 and at least six students are needed to

Violet Erwin, owner of Violet’s Leaded Glass, presented a pro-
gram March 21 demonstrating techniques used in the design and pro-
duction of special pieces of etched, fused, leaded or painted stained
glass that is used for homes and decorating.
/ Ms. Erwin teaches stained glass art at Lee College and offers a full
line of glass art supplies and instruction at her shop.

Election of officers will be held at the next meeting of Xi Gamma
Chi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi at 7:30 p.m. March 24 in the home of
; Ann Lestarjette with Karla Vinson assisting.
| Girl of the Year will be elected, and results will be announced in
• April at the Founder’s Day dinner.
1; A Crazy Bridge social was held March 19 in the home of MaryAnn
' Gaylord. This was a rush party with all members of Ritual of Jewels
S chapters eligible to progress invited to attend.
• Representing the chapter this year on Beta Sigma Phi City Council
are Karla Vinson, president; Mrs. Gaylord, Adele Bruns and Brenda
; Contella, alternate. Ms. Contella is the chapter’s representative on
'the Founder’s Day committee. Mrs. Bruns represented the chapter
on the Valentine Dance committee.
The first meeting in March was an open meeting and salad supper
hosted by Marian .Brann and Mrs. Bruns. Jeannie Lankford
presented a program on wine tasting. Two guests attended.
