Church to host breakfast for graduates
Sunday morning Bible study at 9:30 a.m. begins the week of
ministry at Cedar Bayou Baptist Church, 3116 Alexander Drive.
Dr. E. Richard Steel will preach at the 10:50 a.m. worship service.
All graduates will be recognized during this time and will be honored
with a breakfast at 8 a.m. The sanctuary choir and congregational
singing will be under the direction of Scott Reeves. Accompanists are
Debbie Denson and Marian LeBouf.
The Weekly Workers’ meeting for workers in Sunday morning Bi-
ble study will begin at 5:30 p.m. Church training classes start at 6
p.m. A new members class will also meet at 6 p.m.
Dr. Steel will preach during the 7 p.m. worship service.
The church office will be closed Monday in observance of
Memorial Day. The Joy Class will meet for visitation at 9:30 a.m.
Monday,
Ladies Bible study begins at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. Churchwide
visitation is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
The Silver Chords and Ukulele Band will rehearse at 9:30 a.m.
Wednesday. A joint meeting for all Vacation Bible School workers
will begin at 10:30 a.m.
Mission Friends, Girls-in-Action, Acteens and Royal Ambassadors
will meet for Mission study at 6:25 p.m. Wednesday. Preschool and
children’s choirs will rehearse at 7:15 p.m.
Midweek prayer and Bible study, led by Dr. Steel, begins at 7:15
p.m. Wednesday. The Light Company will meet with Reeves for Bi-
ble study at 7:15 p.m. The sanctuary choir will practice at 8 p.m.
The Sunday morning Bible study council will meet Thursday at
6:30 p.m. and the church council will meet at 7:30 p.m.
The Youth will have a car wash Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. The
children’s choirs will go to the oil ranch in Hockley Saturday. They
will leave at 8:30 a.m.
BAPTIST TEMPLE
Baptist Temple, 6000 Sjolander Road, begins services at 9:45 a.m.
Sunday morning with Sunday school classes. A supervised nursery is
provided from birth to 3 years old.
Morning worship is at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jim Gilbert preaching
“Amazing Grace.” Rev. Gilbert will bring the children’s sermon.

FIRST
Graduating seniors will be special guest in a recognition service at
11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Baytown Sunday morning. The
Rev. Roy A. Parker, pastor will bring the message. The Rev. Chris
Gary, Minister of Youth/Recreation, will present the graduates dur-
ing the service and First Baptist will host these young people at a lun-
cheon in their honor at Murray’s Restaurant following the late wor-
ship service. The early worship service begins at 8:30 a.m. Rev.
Parker will preach. Sunday school begins at 9:45 a.m.
Glory Sound will rehearse at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Youth Staff meets
at 6 p.m. and the evening service begins at 7 p.m.
The church office will be closed on Monday.
Wednesday is churchwide visitation day. Scheduled time for
visiting are 4-8 p.m. Church supper is served at 5 p.m. Adult teachers
meet at 6 p.m. Youth Priority and prayer service begin at 7 p.m. The
adult choir rehearses at 8 p.m. Wednesdays.
School of Friends, the Preschool Ministry at First Baptist, will
have their graduation on Thursday, 7 p.m. *
First Baptist Church is located at 505 Rollingbrook Drive. Church
office is open Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
CENTRAL
Central Baptist Church, 1800 King, will begin its week of ministry
with Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. Sunday. Morning worship is at 11
a.m. with the Rev. Mark Gossett preaching from Hosea, continuing
his sermon series from the prophets. David Truitt will lead the sanc-
tuary choir and congregational singing.
Softball practice will be held at 2 p.m. Graded Choir will meet at 4
p.m. The deacons will meet at 4 p.m. Youth Choir, under the direc-
tion of Paula Truitt, will meet at 5 p.m. RA’s, led by Ron Lindley, will
also meet at 5 p.m. The evening worship service will begin at 6 p.m.
On Wednesday the teachers and officers of Sunday school will meet
at 6:30 p.m. The weekly prayer will start at 7 p.m. and GA’s and Ac-
teens will begin at 7 p.m. Choir rehearsal will start at 7:45 p.m.
Youth Incorporated, led by Mike Clement, will begin at 8 p.m. with
Bible study and play volleyball in the gymnasium.
The Central softball team will play Thursday night at 7:25 p.m. at
the Baytown sports complex.
Deacons of the Week are Y.M. Lannou and Billy Locke.
NORTHSIDE
Old fashioned “cottage” prayer meetings are planned this week at
Northside Baptist Church. Members will be meeting in various
homes throughout the community for prayer in preparation for
revival services scheduled for June 4-8. Brother Henry Roe and
Charlie Altimore will be leading the revival.
This Sunday, the services will be conducted by the Rev. Chuck
Taylor and Philip Marshall. Morning services begin at 10:55 a.m.
following 9:45 a.m. Sunday school. The evening program begins with
church training at 6 p.m. and worship service at 7 p.m.
Other activities of the week include Monday morning men’s prayer
meeting at 6:30 a.m., ladies Baptist women meeting at 9:30 a.m. and
churchwide visitation at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon the children
meet at 5 p.m. for choir practice followed by mission organizations at
6 p.m. and prayer meeting at 7 p.m.
BAKER
Sunday morning services will begin at Baker Road Baptist Church,
900 W. Baker Road, at 9:30 a.m. with Sunday school. Morning wor-
ship will.begin at 10:45 a.m., led by Russell Fite, associate pastor.
Music is under the direction of Eddie Christy. Bonnie Christy is

Senior tribute at
Church of Christ
Sunday morning, the Missouri Street Church of Christ will in-
clude a special tribute to the 1989 high school graduates.
Honorees are Leo Barajas, Paul Fagala, Amy Pace, Stacy
Pace, Jeff Thomas and Crystal Wright.
Services at the Missouri Street Church of Christ will begin at
9 a.m. with Bible classes. At 10 a.m., worship will begin.
Minister Jim Hance will be bringing the lesson “The Acts of the
Believers” from the first verses of the Acts of the Apostles.
Congregational singing will be directed by Kelly Martin. Ser-
vice at the Lord’s Supper will be Buddy Harrott, Gene Harrott,
Wesley Harrott, Skip Hartleib, George Hatcher, Tim Herring,
Guy Holman, James Kelley, Thomas Kelley and Bob King.
Children’s Bible hour will go on during the 10 a.m. service.
This will be a special time of worship and study for 3-year-olds
through kindergarten.
The program, “Joy of Singing” will begin at 5:30 p.m. Even-
ing worship will follow at 6 p.m. The sermon will be “Faith:
Doctrine and Decision” from the Gospel of Mark 5:35-43.
The junior high will have a devotional after evening services
at the home of Buddy and Toni Harrott.
Wednesday morning ladies Bible class is at 10 a.m. Bible
classes will be at 7 p.m. that evening.
Worship and adult Bible classes are also presented in Spanish
at each service.

Burl Hickerson will be preaching during both the morning and
evening services. He is a graduate of Southwestern Seminary. For
seven years he was a chaplain at the California Department of Cor-
rections and has pastored several churches in Texas. He is retired
and he and his wife, Louise, live in Baytown.
High school seniors will be honored during the morning service.
They will wear their caps and gowns and will be presented a gift by
the church family. Our graduating seniors are Melissa Fite, Jeff
Winters, John Purswell, David Johnson, Jeff Starnes, Natosha
Clark, Shannon Dickens, Tim Thompson, John Smilie and Jerry
Hebert. Deaf Interpretation is available in all services.
Evening activities will begin with Outreach/Visitation at 5 p.m.,
children’s choirs at 6 p.m. and intercessary prayer time at 6:30 p.m.
Evening worship begins at 7 p.m.
Ladies Prayer group will meet Tuesday morning in the church
library at 9:30 a.m. All ladies are invited to take part in this prayer
time.
Wednesday evening activities will begin at 5:45 p.m. with a family
dinner. Royal Ambassadors, Girls-in-Action and Mission Friends
meet at 7 p.m. Prayer meeting will begin at 7 p.m., led by Russell
Fite. The sanctuary choir will practice at 8 p.m., following prayer
meeting.
Saturday, June 3, is work day.
SECOND
At Second Baptist Church, 500 E. James, the Rev. Bruce Baker will
be delivering the message Sunday during the morning service at
10:45 a.m. Congregational singing will be under the direction of Jack
Hall. Accompanists will be Jo Ann Young and Patsy Brewer. Sunday
school begins at 9:30 a.m. The morning worship will begin at 10:45
a.m. A nursery is provided for all services. Deaf interpretation is
also provided.
Softball practice will be at 3 p.m. at Sports Complex.
Evening services begin at 5 p.m. with handbell practice. Youth
choir begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by The Master’s College courses
and children’s choir at 6 p.m. Worship service begins at 7 p.m.
Monday, the church office will be closed due to the observance of
Memorial Day.
Tuesday at9:30 a.m., Baptist women will meet.
The senior adult choir will not have rehearsal this Wednesday, nor
the entire month of June.
Wednesday night service begins at 6:30 p.m. with prayer meeting
until 7 p.m.
Beginning at 7 p.m., there will be Bible study, mission organiza-
tions meetings, preschool/teachers meetings, Prime Time, for the
youth and an adult: teacher officer meeting. The adult choir will
rehearse at 8 p.m.
Thursday at 10 a.m. will be the monthly senior adult luncheon.
Also, on Thursday at 6 p.m., the senior adults will go to Houston for
the Astros Game.
Second Baptist Church, East, FM 2354 and Fisher Road, pastored
by Cyrus Fletcher, begins Sunday school at 10 a.m. followed by mor-
ning worship service at 11 a.m. Choir practice begins at 6 p.m.
Thursday is visitation day. t
FIRST
Sunday worship begins with Bible study at 9:45 a.m. followed by
morning worship featuring Senior Recognition Day and children’s
church (ages 4-7) at 11 a.m. Evening activities will include adult
church training, choir practice, children’s RA and GA programs and
Preschool Mission Friends at 6 p.m. There will be no evening ser-
vices because of Barber’s Hill High School Baccalaureate Services
at 8 p.m. at the high school auditorium.
The church office will be closed on Monday for Memorial Day.
Baptist Women will meet Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday activities
at 7 p.m. consist of adult prayer meeting, youth prime time,
children’s choir and a preschool nursery.

The Rev. Norman Lestarjette
will be ministering at Trinity
Tabernacle, 1008 E. Lobit, at 6
p.m. in the evening worship ser-
vice.
Norman and his wife Marty
have been Assemblies of God
Missionaries since 1965. After
twelve years in various areas of
ministry in the Dominican
Republic, and almost six years
in the Distribution Department
of Life Publishers International,
they began working with the
Christian Training Network in
January 1984.
C.T.N. is a tri-level educa-
tional service for Latin America.
At the first level, special train-
ing is provided to those seeking
to excel in Christian education
in the local church. Secondly,
there is the ministerial, or Bible
school training. Two post-
graduate mobile schools make
up the third level: The Carri-
bean School of Theology in
English and the Latin American
Advanced School of Theology
(LAAST) for the seventeen
Spanish speaking countries.
As academic dean of LAAST,
Brother Lestarjette’s ministry
relates to student guidance and
development as well as teaching
in the mobile seminars
throughout Latin America. As
assistant director of C.T.N., his
ministry reaches into the other
two levels of Christian Educa-
tion already mentioned.
Marty works daily at the
C.T.N. Offices, helping to co-
ordinate all the different phases
of this tremendously exciting
and important foreign missions
endeavor.
Both she and Norm feel that
this area of ministry is vital,
especially at this particularly
troubled time in history.

The Memorial Assembly of
God Church of Baytown will be
featuring two young ministers
and their wives, who have gone
out from this church in full time
ministry this Sunday at the 10:50
a.m. and the 7 p.m. services.
The Rev. Mike Breaux of Red
Oak will be the speaker for the
Sunday morning worship ser-
vice. His wife, Sherry will be
ministering in song.
Mike Breaux is a 1978
graduate of Ross S. Sterling
High School and attended
Evangel College in Springfield,
Missouri. He is now in special
ministries with the Assemblies
of God.
The Rev. Randall Joslin,
pastor of the Trinity Assembly of
God church in Farmington, New
Mexico will be the speaker at the
7 p.m. evangelistic service. Rev.
Joslin is a native of Carlsbad,
New Mexico and a graduate of
the Southwestern Assemblies of
God College of Waxahachie.
Rev. Joslin is married to Deb-
bie Breaux of Baytown. Debbie
and Mike are the children of Mr.
and Mrs. Ernest Breaux of
Baytown.
The Rev. Jenkins R. Woods,
states that he and the congrega-
tion at the Memorial Assembly
of God Church are very
delighted to have these young
ministers and their wives come
back home to minister in their
home church.
