Today’s Education
' )
By MORO JEAN WOMACK
As a parent, you quite nat-
urally want to do all you can to
help your child get interested
< n Kr^oHunt na hi c r^aHinp1
If you are giving your child the
experiences that will broaden
his world and increase his
curiosity, this will help. Read-
ing can be a very delightful ex-
perience. Some things a parent
can do is to help the child or
children increase their atten-
tion span and help the child
devote specific time to read-
ing, help him develop an in-
terest in books. Help them se-
lect good reading material and
not trash. See what kind of
books your children are read-
ing, because this is where their
ideas come from.
Help the children build his
or her vocabulary. Reading
helps to build vocabularies In
many ways. Many people read
for pleasure while others read
for knowledge in a given area.
How many of us read the news-
paper, magazines, novels, etc.,
and are able todiscuss them in-
tellectually?
How many of us have a li-
brary or book collection In the
home? How many of us use our
public libraries? Excellent
books and materials are avail-
able for both children and par-
ents. Many people have not fin-
ished high school nor attended
college, but these persons have
educated themselves by attain-
ing knowledge from what they
have read.
