Lee Pena, a junior at Benavides
High School will be among the
112 select participants of the
- National Cheerleaders Associa-
tion’s Spirit of America Perform-
ance Team that will perform at the
. authentic St. Patrick’s Day Parade
in Dublin, Ireland. Of the 112'
members of the NCA Spirit of
America Performance Team, 31
itre Dance/Drill team members,
54 are cheerleaders, 25 are Pom
Pon girls and two are Flag team
representatives.
Pena, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Joe Pena, leaves for Ireland
on Saturday, March 11. She is the
reigning Miss Benavides.
The St. Patrick’s Day Parade is
expected to draw over 750,000
people along the streets of Dublin
to watch this internationally rec-
ognized event. Mike Miller, Ex-
ecutive Director of the NCA
Superstar program has been
named the Grand Marshal of this
year’s parade. His primary duties
will include welcoming all visit-
ing groups and Opening this year’s
parade and festivities.
The NCA Spirit of America
Performance Team will also per-
form at the Castle of Kilkenny in
Kilkenny, Ireland and the Prestig-
ious Lord Mayor's Ball the eve-
ning of the 17th.
The NCA Spirit of America
Performance Team has partici-
pated in the St. Patrick’s Day Pa-
rade for the past seven years. The
team members arc chosen to par-
ticipate by virturc of their being
selected as "outstanding indi-
viduals" at NCA Summer Camps.
Each attended an NCA Superstar
ancc-Drill Team, Cheerleading
pr Pom Pon Camp this past sum-
mer
: The carefully choreographed
routines that will be presented at
the St. Patrick's Day Parade
fulminate five days of intensive
rejfearsals in Ireland, where the
^pdCnts meet for the first time as
a group. Miller is responsible,
along with eight staff members,
for choreographing the routines.

They are conducted each summer
