The Hill Country Arts
Foundation is pleased to
announce the returnA of
Christmas Carol will be
showing December 4-21.
Thursday through Saturday
performances will begin at 8:00
p.m. and Sunday matinees will
begin at 2:00 p.m. Tickets to see
this Christmas classic can be
purchased at the HCAF Box
Office, Monday - Friday 9 a.m. -
5 p.m., Saturday 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.,
and two hours before show time
or call 830-367-5122 to make
your reservations.
This play is highly inventive
adaptation of the classic Dickens
story presented through the
unique stylization of Dan Groat.
See all the characters and the
entire story portrayed by one
individual. The concept of the
one man Christmas Carol isn't
new in and of itself. It was
Charles Dickens,considered an
actor of the first rank, that
orignally delivered his own story
in public in a one-man show.
"Make no mistake" advises Mr.
Groat. "This is not simply a
reading of the story. This is a
play with every character fully
articulated and realized." And
rest assured this is the same
story with the same characters
and the same words that Dickens
himself used.
How is is possible for a single
actor to play 27 roles in the same
show? Well, as one Michigan
reviewer has said of Mr. Groat's
production: "He's a one man city
of distinct guises and manners,
eccentricities and demeanors.
He masterfully blends the voices
of dozens of Dickens' characters
with an articulate narrator, a
voice that echoes with the sound
of Dickens' himself."
Don't miss this delightful holiday
show. Get into the Christmas
spirit, as Dan Groat will get into
several.

Don't forget the 1997 Christmas
in the Park on December 7th,
starting at 6:30 p.m. in the
Community Hall.
The Christmas Program at the
Harper School is scheduled for
Dec. 10 starting at 7:00 P.M. in
the new gym. Everyone is

I heard that Dorothy Bierschwale
was taken to the hosptial this
week but is already back home.
Rachel Mains had a little scare
after going home from the
hospital and having surgery.
They had to air-lift her to a
hospital in San Antonio but I am
pleased to inform you that she is
now back home. ,
Pooch Stevens recently had a
birthday and I believe Betty Joy
Friedrich had a birthday and an
anniversary.
We only have 23 more days
until Christmas!
Susan Wienecke, Valerie
Riegor, Susan Bishop, Aaron
Baethge, Natalie and Justin
Whitewood were home for
Thanksgiving.
Our sympathy goes to Marr
family for the loss of Agnes
Evelyn Marr, 72 years of age,
passed away Wednesday
morning, November 27th.
Our sympathy goes to Kitten
Gamel and her relatives in the
passing away of her father Hollis
Fowler of Brady.
It sure was good to see Devoe
Jackson, Pat Rogers Mother, at
church Sunday. She looked good
to me. I was very happy to see
her. She says she has moved
back down here to stay.
Andrew Bishop and Kara Welge
went to the Rio Grande Valley to
have Thanksgiving with their
Evelyn Bishop, John Bishop's
Mother and family members
there, as well as visit with Bernie
Ash, Karen Bishop's Mother.
The Ladies Bible Study Class of
First Baptist Church Harper, will
be having their Christmas Party
and Bible Study this Wednesday
at Noon.
A lot will be going on in Harper
the next few weeks. The
students need to rest and study
hard for they will be having tests
coming up.
It isn't too late to gather your
can goods for the Community
Chest to fix their Christmas
Baskets. You can take them to
your church or I believe to the
Lutheran Church where the
baskets will be put together.
The Community Choir will meet
this Tuesday evening at the
Presbyterian Church at 7:00 P.M.
for their rehearsal for their part on
program at the Community Hall
on Dec. 7th. Everyone is invited
to come and help.
I understand a young boy, of 12
years of age died from a gunshot
wound on Thankgiving Day, here
in the Harper community. We
need to pray for that family. I'm
not sure of the name but the Lord
knows. All we have to do is pray
for them.
Churches will be having their
Christmas Programs coming up.
Please give the time and place of
these programs to Karen Bishop
to be put in the newspaper to
inform our people.
Boys and girls I hope you have
started writing your letters to
Santa, or at least making your
Christmas wish list.
Until next week, be careful and
stay healthy.

Last week we had several featured in Molly Magoo's column. The
first was Ella Wienecke just before her 16th birthday. Elva Wilson
guessed who it was when she first saw her but some of you didn’t
know who it was.
Then the two children are Shawn Dodd, now 23, and is Austin in
Computer business. The girl is Allison Brown, now 23, is competing
her last year in A.S.U. in San Angelo with an Associate Degree in
Nursing. These are the children of Carl and Jan Dodd, in Austin,
Texas and Bob & Dee Brown in Georgetown, Texas. They are the
grandchildren of Foye and Clint Brown. Did you know them?
This week we have three seventh grade students from 1969. Do
you know any of them?

Healthy Pink Lungs!
November 20,1997
Mrs. Grissom's Second Grade Students wore PINK or RED to
promote THE GREAT AMERICAN SMOKE-OUT. They studied
the subject in their Weekly Reader and made badges to wear. A
great discussion took place about ways to stay healthy and to
never start smoking.
