Mark Your Calendars for the Cowboy
Christmas Ball
Johnny Gimble, the country's premier Western swing fiddler, will
headline the entertainment at a gala Cowboy Christmas Ball on
Saturday, December 20 at the Community Building in Mason.
Gimble and his band, Texas Swing, will provide old-time Texas
dance music during the all-night party.
The Cowboy Christmas Ball, designed to recreate the flavor of
19th Century western holiday dances, will include a chuckwagon
breakfast at midnight and music until the last couple cries "calf
rope" in the wee small hours of Sunday morning. Local
musicians and entertainers will spell Texas Swing throughout the
evening, and everyone is encouraged to dress in keeping with the
1880-90 era. There will be a Mr. Cowboy contest during the
festivities, with local hands competing in cigaretting rolling,
roping, and dancing the waltz and two-step (doesn't every real
cowboy know how to dance?). Not to leave the ladies out, there
will also be a "saloon girl: contest to determine our own "Miss
" Kitty."
Gimble, an alumnus of Bob Wills Texas Playboys band, is a
star performer at dances throughout Texas and surrounding
states, and is the recipient of a National Heritage Fellowship,
awarded by the National Endowment for the Arts for his
"outstanding contribution to American culture." Gimble has been
a popular session musician, recording with Chet Atkins, Merle
Haggard, Conway Twitty, Willie Nelson, George Strait, and
others. He has been named instrumentalist of the year five times
by the Country Music Association and fiddler of the year eight
times by the Academy of Country Music. In 1994 he won a
Grammy for his arrangement of "Red Wing" on the Bob Wills
tribute album recorded by Asleep at the Wheel.
All those attending will receive a sourenir program, dance cards,
and breakfast at midnight (shili, beans, scrambled eggs, calf
fries, biscuits and grave). Coffee and set-ups will be available
throughout the evening. The event is being produced by Blue
Mountain Productions and the Mason Chamber of Commerce,
with a portion of the proceeds to go to the West Texas Boys
Ranch. Make your plans now to attend this gala event!

I lost my leg below the knee and I
am having knee pain that I think is
caused by wearing a prosthesis. I
am tired of taking pain drugs. Can
a chiropractor help me?
Loss of a limb and using a prosthe-
sis usually causes changes in bodily
biomechanics. These changes put
stress on muscles and joints that can
cause pain and dysfunction. An exam
by your chiropractor should enable
him to tell you if chiropractic care can
help alleviate your pain which would
get you toward your goal of getting
off the drugs. Additionally, chiroprac-
tor well-educated in pain management
can help you make diet and nutritional
supplement choices that will help
reduce your pain.
Who started chiropractic and
when?
Modem chiropractic health acre was
founded by Dr. Daniel David Palmer
in 1895 in Davenport, Iowa which
makes this non-surgical and drug-free
healing accepted around the world in
one century. Additionally, however,

The article was correct. Headaches
can, and frequently are, caused by
misalignment of the spine. If this is

The Lion in Winter Cast
The Hill Country Arts Foundation's upcoming productive
Lion in l/Wnte/has been cast. The production is scheduled to
take place in the indoor Pavilion from January 23 - February 14,
1998. The Lion in Winters a modern play with the style, wit, and
rhetorical repartee of Shakespeare. This is the historical, yet
fictionalized, story of King Henry II of England, his wife Eleanor
of Aquitaine, and his three sons - Richard, Geoffrey and John -
all of whom wish to be King. This is a hujorous and tragic
depiction of a dysfunctional family who stood at the center of
power in England and France during the Twelfth Century.
The cast of five men and two women are Hill Country residents
and all Point Theatre veterans. Roy Burney will portray the
boisterous mediaeval king, Henry II of England. Ann Galland will
play Eleanor of Aquitaine, Henry's estranged wife, whom he has
had locked up for years after she tried to lead a revolt against
him. Three of Henry’s sons are present in the play, all whom
want to be king. There is Richard, played by Isaac Byrne,
eventually know as Richard the Lion-Hearted. He is his mother's
favorite for succession to the crown. The petulant young John,
played by Kevin Cass, is the youngest and favored by his father.
The middle son Geoffrey, portrayed by Preston Hyde, cannily
casts his support alternately to one of the other of his brothers.
Holly Matthews will be seen as Alais, the pliable princess in the
odd position of being the king's mistress and the betrothed of
whichever of his sons is to get the crown. Andy Picakrd is Philip,
the King of France, who insists on a marriage for Alais right away
or the return of her dowry. Dwayne McFarland is directing this
production of richly-phased verbal assaults and dysfunctional
family intrigue.
This fascinating play about royalty, power, plots and schemes
has been a long time favorite to theater audiences, so don't miss
it! Seating is limited so make reservations early. Tickets to see
this historical classic can be purchased at the HCAF Box Office,
Monday - Friday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Saturday 1 p.m. - 5 p.m., and
two hours before show time or call 830-367-5122 to make your
reservations. The HCAF is located just west of Ingram on Hwy.
