HARPER BLASTS CHEROKEE
IN SEASON OPENER, 67-45
The Harper Longhorns are off and running for the 97-98 season
with a win over Cherokee 67-45. Ron Brown, the district's MVP
(Most Valuable Player) last year as a junior, scored 21 points,
followed by Travis Whitewood with 14. Rowdy Westbrook tossed
in 10, and contributing 4 points each were John Beaudoin, Nick
Knippa, Tres Masser, Timmy Holmes, and Michael Brown.
Rounding out the scoring effort was Jamie Rieger with 2. Ron
Brown also led the rebounding effort with 11, followed by Travis
Whitewood with 9 and Tres Masser with 5. Timmy Holes had
three assists, and John Beaudoin led in steals with 3. The
Longhorns travel to Center Point on Monday, November 24, and
host Comfort in the new gymnasium on Tuesday, November 25.

Monday, November 17th the Harper FFA competed in the
annual Hill District FFA leadership contest. The greenhand
chapter conducting placed 3rd, Josh Campbell respresented the
chapter in the creed speaking contest, also placing 3rd. The
Senior farm Skills Team demonstrated how to apply asphalt
shingles. The team consisting of Michael Tatsch, Garrett Lively
and Lissa Lange placed 1st and will move on to compete on the
area level Saturday, November 22nd at Southwest Texas State
University.

Last week in Molly Magoo we had a Harper High School FFA
Livestock Judging Team who won first place and top honors at the
San Angelo Livestock Judging Contest in 1975 during the annual
San Angelo Livestock Show and Rodeo. Left to right, team
members were: Sheila Maner, Donnie Jung, Kenneth Fritz and Mike
Ficker, the latter being 6th high individual out of about 300 boys and
girls taking part.
