Baylor Sets
Meeting
Future college students and
their parents from Mathis are
invited to meet with Baylor
University representatives for
the spring meeting of the
Corpus Christi area chapter of
Baylor Parents League (BPL).
The meeting will be at 7:30
p.m. Monday, April 18, in the
meeting room of Corpus Christi
Bank and Trust. Baylor of-
ficials will include Larry
Smith, coordinator of ad-
missions counseling, and Mrs.
Jack (Daphne) Herring, BPL
director.
Mrs. Herring said the
meeting is open to prospective
Baylor students and their
families, parents of current
Baylor students, Baylor
alumni, and others interested
in the University.
Smith will discuss aspects of
higher education, such as
admissions, financial aid, and
academic opportunities. He
will provide detailed in-
formation on Baylor, a four-
year private university in
Waco owned by the Baptist
General Convention of Texas.
Baylor, founded in 1845, is
Texas’ oldest instituation of
higher learning in continuous
existence.
A viual presentation on
Baylor will complement
Smith’s discussion.
The BPL, formed 10 years
ago, serves as a com-
munications link between
parents and the university by
informing parents of ac-
complishments, goals, and
traditions of Baylor. BPL
chapters are established in
Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana,
New Mexico, and Oklahoma.
Serving as president of the
Corpus Christi area BPL are
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hillin Sr. of
518 Dickens. Their son, Jimmie
Glen, is a senior music
education major at Baylor.
