The Ooldth waite Volunteer
Fire Department was called out
Monday night at 11:00 o’clock
on an emergency call to Priddy.
The Priddy gin. owned and op-
erated by W. R. (BUD Shipp,
was totally destroyed by fire.
Several bales of cotton were also
destroyed by the fire. The fire
was so far advanced when the
firemen arrived there that it
was impossible to save the
building or contents.
A total of 28 pints of blood
were donated here Wednesday
of last week when the Red Cross
Bloodmoblle made Its first offi-
cial visit to Mills County during
this fiscal year.
This was short 42 pints of the
quota set for the visit, Norman
Duren, local Red Croat blood
chairman, announced.
The formal opening of the
new Oulf Service Station In
Ooldth waite, located at the cor-
ner of Fisher and Fourth Street,
across from the courthouse, will
be celebrated this coming Sat-
urday, September 29. The sta-
tion Is being operated by Jack
Long and his son. Jack Earl,
and they take pleasure In Invit-
ing their friends and customers
to drop by and look over their
new station.
Miss Bernice Kirby, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Kirby of
Ooodland. Texas, and John
Weldon Weaver, son of Mrs.
Mary Weaver, were married Au-
gust 31, In Clovis, New Mexico.

Wiggly Grocery Store, and Is
now sole owner of the new
Plggly Wiggly which opens In
the same location Saturday
morning.
At sunrise Bunday. September
28, Miss Helen Reid and Jimmie
Prtnelle were quietly married at
the home of the bride's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Reid Rev. E.
E. Dawson officiated at the
single ring ceremony.

Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Keese were
given a pleasant surprise last
weekend by having six of their
eight children come to visit
them.
Rev. W. R. White, president of
Hardln-Slmmons University of
Abilene, and Mrs. White stopped
for a few hours In Qoldthwalte
to visit old-time friends. Rev.
White delivered the Sunday
morning message to a large
crowd at the Baptist Church.
Phil Ford of Abilene, who has
a position as Inspector In a
warehouse at Austin, was In
Qoldthwalte last Friday for a
few hours visit with his parents.
Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Ford. His
niece, Miss Sara Dell 8cott, ac-
companied him to Abilene for
a short visit.
Mrs. 8. F. Oartman. who has
been In Long Beach. California,
for several weeks visiting her
daughter, Mrs. Frank Keese and
family, accompanied Mr. and
Mrs. Frank Keese and daughter,
Franclne. to Qoldthwalte last
8unday. They are visiting In the
Louis Qartman home. The
Keese family la also visiting his
parents. Mr. and Mrs. Tom
Keese.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Peterson
spent the weekend with his pat-
ents In Jacksboro.
Mrs. Will Burks and Mrs.
Bulah Sauters spent Sunday
with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Webb In
San Saba County.
60 YEARS AGO-

Files of September 29, 1906)
Newe reached this city this
week of the death of Mr. John
B. Baker at his home In Vol
Verde County. Mr. Baker was
one of the first settlers of Bit;
Valley and lived there until a
few years ago. when he sold hla
farm and other property there
to H. C. Ezzell and moved to
the place where hla death oc-
cured.
One day this week a bale of
cotton weighing 880 pounds was
packed at Qatlln A Gatlin's Uin.
This bale la a record breaker.
There were 2.850 pounds of seed
cotton and the intention was to
make two bales of It and It was
all put Into one by mistake.
S. J. Tullos was in to see the
Eagle editor last Saturday and
reported some rapid cotton
picking on his farm north of
town last Friday. Three young
men picked 1,617 pounds on
that day and one of them be-
came 111 and had to quit before
night, hence he did not pick as
much as the other two, but he
gathered a whole lot of It. Sam
Tullos picked 574, Jesse Bennett
picked 638, Jesse Tullos. who
was sick, picked 500. This beats
the record In this county, the
Eagle believes.
T. T. Nlckols has been ap-
pointed carrier 09 the Big Val-
ley rural mall route at a salary
of 8700 a year. He begins work
Monday. C. H. Ford Is substitute
carrier on this route.
