origin, broke out In the rear of
Thomas Hamrick's grocery, wnlch oc-
cupies a two-story building. The build-
ing was n veritable mass of seething
flames when the alarm was turned In.
Ilamrlck estimates his lgfflk at $10,000,
with $4,000 insurance.
The HUhoop building, owned by
the Ilishop estate, was damaged
$6,000, with $3,000 InJuranee. Mor-
row- Brothers had a barber shop on tha
ground floor. They estimate their loag
at. $1.00 with an equal Insurance. At-
torney Bishop had hla law office on
the second ' floor. His law valuable
law- library was destroyed, together
with valued papers. He carried $1,500

At the dinner ou last Saturday
evening given by the Comanche coun-
ty ex-students of the State Cuiver-
sify deep concern was manifested and
expressed by the ex students as to the
individual to be chbaeu by the regents
of the university as president. Act-

serve during the interim between the
resignation of Dr. Vlnsou and such
time rfs a president--should be decided
upon, hut it 11 TteUered that within

Two men were discussed from tha
standpoint of the qualifications believ-
ed to Ik* requisite, either of whom tha
Comanche county students believed
would have that devotion to the Texas
University which would make them
view its presidency as a worthy work
for a mans whole life. These men
Were Dr. Eugene C. Barker, now occu-
pying the chair of history in the
Texas University, and Dr. Herbert
Bolton, head of the school of history
lu the University of California at
Berkeley.
After considerable discussion Dr.
Boltons name received the majority
vote of these present and a resolu-
tion was adopted th which he was rec-
ommended to the board of regents.
